It seems like the line between journalists and politicians is always growing finer. According to the Texas Tribune, ABC News’ Chief Political Analyst Matthew Dowd is ”thinking” about running for Texas Senate as an Independent challenger to Ted Cruz. He told the Tribune that he has been approached by both Republicans and Democrats to run.
The former Republican, who once worked in the Bush administration and later complained about him to the New York Times, is known for making wacky analogies during his political commentary on Good Morning America. Dowd presents himself as a “proud independent” on his Twitter account, but more often than not parrots liberal talking points.
In fact, it seems like Dowd’s explicit role on ABC is to be the token right-leaning analyst who bashes the right. Whether it’s lecturing Republicans to give up on repealing Obamacare, saying Republicans are upset that Americans are “less white,” ordering them to lay off of Hillary, saying Reagan would’ve been booed by conservatives or condemning the GOP as “damaged,” Dowd has a long record of attacking conservatives during his time on ABC.
