Chuck Todd Claims GOP Offending "The Center" by Fighting Abortion

April 16th, 2023 10:04 AM

On Sunday, Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd used his weekly appearance on NBC's Sunday Today to concern troll the Republican Party on the party's position on abortion. While appearing on the program to preview his program Meet the Press later that morning, Todd quoted liberal Republican New Hampshire governor Chris Sununu's criticism of the GOP's abortion bans and insisted that the issue is a "total debacle for the GOP." Since when is former Democrat staffer Chuck Todd in the business of giving electoral advice to the GOP? That's why this is considered concern trolling.

Host Willie Geist kicked off the conversation by citing anonymous Republicans he allegedly spoke to that proclaimed fighting to ban or limit the ability to slaughter unborn babies is a losing issue for the GOP.

"Talking to some Republicans this week, behind the scenes Chuck, I’m not sure what you’re hearing, saying we have a problem politically on this issue of abortion," Geist said to Todd.

"Some of them are saying it very publicly," Todd boasted before citing Sununu. "Chris Sununu basically said, and I thought he put it in some pretty interesting, stark terms, he said whatever you think of the Roe v. Wade decision, it was a 50-year precedent. Whatever you think of medicated abortion and mifepristone, this was a 20-year precedent."

Todd then bemoaned how the GOP is upsetting the status quo and turning off independent voters. "Whenever a party looks like it is upsetting the status quo in a quick way or in a radical way and not in an incremental way, there's almost always a backlash from the center and from the middle, and that's what you're seeing here."

Has Todd ever claimed that Socialists like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders or Democrat New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez were attempting to "upset the status quo" in a "radical way" with their support of government-run socialized medicine?

"I think you talk to any of the Republicans who come from swing states who have ever had to win re-election with an independent voter and they see this abortion debate right now as a total debacle for the GOP," Todd said continuing to concern troll.

To our knowledge, Todd has never said that the left's radical transgender agenda, to mutilate and chemically castrate young children have "caused backlash from the center and from the middle." To leftists like Todd, the Democrat Party agenda can never be too radical.

WILLIE GEIST: Talking to some Republicans this week, behind the scenes Chuck, I’m not sure what you’re hearing, saying we have a problem politically on this issue of abortion.

CHUCK TODD: Some of them are saying it very publicly. Chris Sununu basically said, and I thought he put it in some pretty interesting, stark terms, he said whatever you think of the Roe v. Wade decision, it was a 50-year precedent. Whatever you think of medicated abortion and mifepristone, this was a 20-year precedent. And he said right now the Republican Party looks like it wants to sort of pull the rug out and throw all this change, and that is -- you know, whenever a party looks like it is upsetting the status quo in a quick way or in a radical way and not in an incremental way, there's almost always a backlash from the center and from the middle, and that's what you're seeing here. And I think you talk to any of the Republicans who come from swing states who have ever had to win re-election with an independent voter and they see this abortion debate right now as a total debacle for the GOP.
