MSNBC's Ruhle Whines GOP Voted to Protect Babies in Botched Abortions

January 12th, 2023 12:39 AM

On MSNBC’s The 11th Hour, host Stephanie Ruhle opened her Wednesday night program to whine that House Republicans voted to protect babies born in botched abortions. She went on to huff that there’s “no state that allows any doctor to kill a newborn baby.” If that’s the case, then why does Ruhle apparently oppose a law preventing the killing of a newborn?

"Tonight we are getting a much clearer picture of how Republicans are planning to lead the House in the 118th Congress,” Ruhle opened her show proclaiming.

“The GOP may have won control by campaigning on kitchen table issues like inflation and crime, but tonight, they used the power of their majority to pass two abortion related bills,” Ruhle cried as if protecting the most innocent among us doesn’t affect the economy and therefore isn’t a “kitchen table issue.”

Ruhle then whined that the born alive legislation “punishes doctors for denying care to babies who survive an abortion attempt.”

“No House Republicans voted against either of these bills,” she added.

She then aired remarks from House Majority Whip Steve Scalise which she called “deeply misleading”:

The babies born alive outside the womb in some states, they actually are allowing that baby to be killed and calling it abortion, it's murder and yet it's legal in some states.

When Ruhle returned she angrily responded: “Nope! For fact's sake that is not true,” which is always your first clue that what she’s about to say is a lie.

“There is no state that allows any doctor to kill a newborn baby. What you just heard is a lie used to promote laws that curb abortion,” Ruhle misleadingly claimed.

In fact, according to our friends at Life News, thirty-four babies were born alive and possibly left to die from botched abortions between 2020 and 2022 in just seven states.

That data doesn’t include New York which barbarically allows babies born alive from botched abortions to die

The bill that the House passed would add needed protections from these horrific cases. Ruhle obviously couldn’t care less.

STEPHANIE RUHLE: Tonight we are getting a much clearer picture of how Republicans are planning to lead the House in the 118th Congress. The GOP may have won control by campaigning on kitchen table issues like inflation and crime, but tonight, they used the power of their majority to pass two abortion related bills. One condemns attacks on anti abortion facilities, the other, a so-called born alive bill, punishes doctors for denying care to babies who survive an abortion attempt. No House Republicans voted against either of these bills. And this week, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise made this absolutely false case for that second bill with deeply misleading remarks like these.
