ABC: People Still Debating If Biden Is Major Success or Failure

November 27th, 2022 4:31 PM

On Sunday’s edition of This Week on ABC, political director Rick Klein made the laughable observation during the “PowerHouse Roundtable” discussion that in Democrat circles, there’s a debate over whether the Biden presidency has been a success or failure. All anyone needs to do in order to answer this question is look at their grocery bills, the price of a gallon of gas, and their 401k and they will find out pretty quickly what the answer is.

During a discussion on the Biden administration’s legislative agenda in light of the GOP winning control of the United States House of Representatives, Klein noted how ”we're in a stage still where people are trying to figure out, on the Democratic side, is the Biden presidency a resounding success or is it kind of a middling thing or is it a major disappointment?”

“There's an argument to be made about how productive this Congress has been and how productive Biden has been, and what he’s been able to do,” Klein added.

Klein also pointed out that “there’s a case to be made about promises unkept and liberal fantasies and dreams that are unmet,” and that this debate “will bleed into 2024 conversation.”

“People are still deciding on the Democratic side was this election a validation or vindication or not. And what does it mean for the President's prospects going forward,” Klein observed.

He ended by noting that a federal appeals court judge striking down Biden’s student loan bailout as unconstitutional could hurt the President’s political standing: “So when you have a stalled action item like this, a promise that was not delivered it's harmful.”

RICK KLEIN: We're in a stage still where people are trying to figure out, on the Democratic side, is the Biden presidency a resounding success or is it kind of a middling thing or is it a major disappointment? And you’ve got voices on the left—

MARTHA RADDATZ: It depends on who you ask on this side of the table.

KLEIN: There's an argument to be made about how productive this Congress has been and how productive Biden has been, and what he’s been able to do. There’s also a case to be made about promises unkept and liberal fantasies and dreams that are unmet. This will bleed into 2024 conversation. Because President Biden of course has not made an actual announcement as whether he’s gonna run or not.

It doesn’t appear like there’s likely to be a major primary challenger to him. But people are still deciding on the Democratic side was this election a validation or vindication or not. And what does it mean for the President's prospects going forward, so when you have a stalled action item like this, a promise that was not delivered it's harmful.
