Reid: Tucker Is Racist for Asking to See Judge Jackson's Test Scores

March 4th, 2022 12:09 AM

On Thursday evening's episode of MSNBC's The ReidOut, Joy Reid used her nightly segment "The Absolute Worst" to go after Fox News host Tucker Carlson for daring to ask for Biden Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s LSAT scores.

Reid originally wanted to name Florida Governor Ron DeSantis her "absolute worst" for letting high school students know they could take off their masks if they wanted, but Reid apparently thought Carlson's comments were so beyond the pale that she gave the honor to him.

"So on any normal day, the glaring hypocrisy of Ron DeSantis would make him the absolute worst. But nope, there is someone even worse out there" Reid wailed before cutting to Carlson's remarks:

It might be time for Joe Biden to let us know what Ketanji Brown Jackson’s LSAT score was. How did she do on the LSATs? Why wouldn't you tell us that? That would settle the question conclusively as to whether she is a once-in-a-generation legal talent, the next one at hand.

Reid then mocked Carlson for not going to an Ivy League school "weirdly enough, couldn’t get into an Ivy Tuckums Carlson never asked to see any other nominees’ test scores."

Reid then read from a Nicole Hannah-Jones tweet to complain about Carlson's alleged racism "as Nicole Hannah-Jones so aptly tweeted, this is textbook racism, not even a dog whistle. Outside of the ridiculous argument that scores to get into law school are the measure of qualification, long after law school, plus a lengthy judicial career. The presumption that black people are dumb is standard white supremacy."

She proceeded to list all of Judge Jackson's qualifications and give a rundown of her resume:

Ketanji Brown Jackson has an extensive amount of experience, as Elliott Williams tweeted when she was nominated. Imagine a supremely qualified SCOTUS nominee with two Harvard degrees with honors, a SCOTUS clerkship for the justice they’d replace, and two years as a federal judge. That’s Chief Justice, John Roberts. Ketanji Brown Jackson has all of that, plus seven more years as a judge. In contrast, Amy Coney Barrett was the least qualified nominee in recent history.

Accusing Carlson of racism, Reid asked if he ever questioned Justice Barrett's experience, adding "he sure didn't. Instead, he said there was no question she was qualified for the job. I guess he knew just by looking at her." The suggestion being Carlson didn't question her qualifications because she's white, while Jackson is black.

The fact of the matter is, that is not Carlson's argument. His problem with Biden nominating her is not because she's black, but because Biden nominated her because she was a black woman. That's not to say she isn't qualified, but Carlson wants to see Biden tout her credentials and not her skin color. Here is what Carlson said the night Biden nominated Judge Jackson:

Let's say you really didn't care about the country you lead. Let's say you wanted to humiliate and degrade it and undermine its ancient institutions. What would you do? Well, you might take the single most important appointed position in the entire government and announce in public that you are filling that position on the basis of appearance. Not on the basis of skill or wisdom or fealty to the founding documents of the United States, but on the basis of the way the person looks. So it's not a question of we found the most qualified person who happens to look this way, what you are saying is we found a person who looks this way who, by the way, may be qualified. That will send a very clear message that you don't like the country you run and you don't care about the institutions that its ancestors built.

America is the ultimate meritocracy where anyone can achieve their dreams if they put in the work and earn it. Appointing Judge Jackson because of her skin color, is not just unfair to those who may be more qualified who aren't black, but it is also unfair to Jackson that her accomplishments and life story are being boiled down to her skin pigmentation. Joy Reid is the real racist, not Tucker Carlson.

Racist Joy Reid falsely accusing Tucker Carlson of being racist was made possible by sponsorships from WeatherTech and AT&T. Their information is linked so you can let them know about the biased news they fund.

TUCKER CARLSON: It might be time for Joe Biden to let us know what Ketanji Brown Jackson’s LSAT score was. How did she do on the LSATs? Why wouldn't you tell us that? That would settle the question conclusively as to whether she is a once-in-a-generation legal talent, the next one at hand.

REID: Weirdly enough, couldn’t get into an Ivy Tuckums Carlson never asked to see any other nominees’ test scores. As Nicole Hannah-Jones so aptly tweeted, this is textbook racism, not even a dog whistle. Outside of the ridiculous argument that scores to get into law school are the measure of qualification, long after law school, plus a lengthy judicial career. The presumption that black people are dumb is standard white supremacy. Ketanji Brown Jackson has an extensive amount of experience, as Elliott Williams tweeted when she was nominated. That’s Chief Justice, John Roberts. Ketanji Brown Jackson has all of that, plus seven more years as a judge. In contrast, Amy Coney Barrett was the least qualified nominee in recent history. And did Tuckums question her experience? He sure didn't. Instead, he said there was no question she was qualified for the job. I guess he knew just by looking at her.

He then praised her remarkable family and mused that she was maybe the most impressive person to receive a Supreme Court nomination in memory. So for his not even trying to hide it anymore, blatant, and frankly, stupid racism, Tucker Carlson is once again tonight's absolute, absolute worst! And that is tonight's ReidOut.
