Well, this should be fun. President Obama and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will hold a joint press conference in a few minutes in the Rose Garden. The last joint press conference the president held -- on May 13 with British Prime Minister David Cameron -- was met with some tough questions by the AP's Julie Pace.
Below the page break I'll be live-blogging the questions from journalists. As usual, please give us the questions you would like answered in the comments section. 12:48: President starts the presser, almost 50 minutes late.
12:56: PM Erdogan makes his opening statement. Keep in mind that a 1:30 p.m. lunch is scheduled for the Prime Minister, so expect few questions to be entertained from the press.
1:03 p.m. Julianna Goldman of Bloomberg asks about IRS scandal: should he have learned about it before he heard it in the news. Should a special prosecutor be named? Goldberg also asks PM Erdogan about normalizing relations with Israel.
[It's raising, so President asked Marines to hold umbrellas over his and Erdogan's heads. Why make the Marines hold the umbrellas? Why not some flack like Jay Carney?]
1:09 p.m. Female Turkish reporter asks Erdogan about evidence of chemical weapons in Syria. She also asks Obama: "You said chemical weapons would be a red line in Syria. Has Assad crossed the red line?"
1:15 p.m., male reporter with question about whether seizure of AP phone records was an overreach and if Obama still has confidence in is attorney general. Also asks about comparisons of this week's scandals with Nixon's.
1:19 p.m. same reporter asks questions about Syria of Erdogan.
1:26 p.m. Obama concludes press conference. Some reporters heard shouting questions but can't make them out.
