Last night, Saturday Night Live used its cold opening to mock MSNBC’s Democratic presidential forum with cast member Cecily Strong portraying moderator Rachel Maddow. Strong described the forum as a “debate that no one watches.”
After SNL’s Maddow briefly spoke to Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, portrayed by Taran Killam, Kate McKinnon appeared on set as Hillary Clinton and the SNL cast member hilariously did her best to mock Clinton’s attempts at appearing authentic.
Strong poked fun at MSNBC by telling McKinnon “let’s dive into some tough questions, but don’t worry not actually tough just MSNBC tough.” McKinnon immediately launched into her portrayal of Clinton by awkwardly trying to appear as casual as possible sitting in a chair.
McKinnon went on to mock Clinton’s use of a fake southern accent to try and connect with the voters in South Carolina before she tacked an over-exaggerated New York accent as well. Strong continued to mock Maddow by tossing more MSNBC-style softball questions at SNL’s Clinton which McKinnon squirmed to make Clinton appear as uncomfortable as possible.
