Chris Matthews: ‘Abraham Lincoln Would Not Have Worked For Fox’

March 13th, 2014 8:27 AM

Following President Obama’s appearance on the satirical interview show “Between Two Ferns” with comedian Zach Galifianakis, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews chose to take an unnecessary swipe at Fox News.

Appearing as a guest on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on March 13, the “Hardball” host reacted to Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly saying that Abraham Lincoln would not have gone on “Between Two Ferns” by claiming that” My View is that Abraham Lincoln would not have worked for Fox.” [See video below.]

Matthews’ comments came at the end of a segment during the 7:00 a.m. hour in which co-host Mika Brzezinski desperately told her audience that “We are going to be watching Hardball”, along with everybody, to which Matthews moaned that “Well, not everybody yet…we have competition.

That competition is none other than Fox News, which consistently beats his program and all other MSNBC programming on a daily basis. No wonder Matthews is so bitter and chose to make an unnecessary jab at Fox.

Morning Joe

March 13, 2014

7:26 a.m. Eastern

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Chris Matthews, thank you very much. We are going to be watching "Hardball," along with everybody.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Well, not everybody yet.

BRZEZINSKI: Everybody at 7:00 eastern time.

MATTHEWS: We have competition.

BRZEZINSKI: You do?

MATTHEWS: Yeah.

BRZEZINSKI: Okay. It didn't seem like you did the way you carry yourself.

MATTHEWS: I was very careful. By the way, I noticed that Bill O'Reilly said that the president Alabama Lincoln wouldn't have gone on that show with Zach Galifianakis.

BRZEZINSKI: I disagree. He had a sense of humor.

MATTHEWS: My view is that Abraham Lincoln would not have worked for Fox.

BRZEZINSKI: Good point.

CHUCK TODD: The whole reason the Lincoln-Douglas debates happened is because Abe Lincoln hectored Douglas until Douglas agreed to debate. He’s sort of an aggressive guy.
