They love it.
You can almost smell the popping popcorn in the various offices of the nation’s liberal media as they zero in on whatever is the latest in the President Trump versus Elon Musk circus.
And make no mistake. For the liberal media the dust-up between the two men is manna from headline heaven.
Some samples - starting with several just from The Washington Post alone:
- Republicans stick with Trump in wake of explosive clash with Musk
- Trump calls Musk ‘the man who has lost his mind’
- MAGA faithful celebrate: ‘We’re popping bottles’
- Musk claims Trump is in the secret Epstein files. Here’s what to know.
The New York Times:
- Trump Has Power, a Big Megaphone and Billions to Spend. So Does Musk.
- President Trump is locked in a showdown with the world’s richest man, who is far from a typical opponent.
- First, Snubs. Then Flattery. Now Trump and Musk Are at War.
- Elon Musk and Donald Trump Are Splitsville, Until They Aren’t
- For all the insults that Mr. Musk and Mr. Trump traded on Thursday, don’t be surprised if they make up again days from now. In the meantime, they both benefit.
- If Elon Musk and President Trump Divorce, Who Gets Silicon Valley?
- The relationship between Mr. Trump and tech industry power brokers was built on money and the promise of deregulation, with Mr. Musk in the middle of it all.
CNN: Trump says he won't be speaking to Musk
The president told CNN he was ‘not even thinking about’ the billionaire who, until a recent rift, was a close ally
MSNBC: It’s a DOGE-eat-DOGE world. And now Trump and Musk fans may have to pick a side.
The ugly end to the alliance between the president and the richest man in the world will change the trajectory of the MAGA movement.
As noted, these lib media headlines are but a sampler. They are all over the place.
The real question here is: why?
Past Presidents have parted ways with senior advisers, whether in the Cabinet or senior staff. As a Reagan White House alum, I well and vividly recall the abrupt resignation of then-White House Chief of Staff Donald T. Regan as a result of the “Iran-Contra” scandal affair and, no small thing, his disfavor with First Lady Nancy Reagan.
But it didn’t take long for Regan to vanish from the headlines, a similar fate for other high-ranking presidential appointees in other administrations.
This time around, however, there appears to be a significant difference. The liberal media is, as is long known, no fan of President Trump. But up until he seemed to be taking a rightward, pro-Trump turn, Musk himself was little short of venerated by an adoring liberal media.
The Tesla, Musk’s famed electric car invention, was seen in the media as a chariot of the climate change Gods. But with the realization of a Trump tie-in, Teslas quite literally became the target for violence, set on fire or scarred with key scratches and Nazi emblems.
Now, of a sudden, there has been a falling out between Musk and the President. Which in turn utterly delights a liberal media that now cannot abide either man.
The result? One headline after another all over the place, playing up the negative comments from one man about the other. It takes no imagination to envision the sheer glee sweeping through the newsrooms of America’s leading news outlets of both print and on-air television, not to mention those surrounding them whose task is to fill social media.
The real question here?
What serious effect will all of this media circus have both on the two major players, not to mention on the considerably serious issues at play?
At this point it is too soon to tell. But that there will eventually be some lasting impact on not just the men involved but on the serious fiscal and budgetary governmental policy that is at the center of all the to-do over the “Big Beautiful Bill” there can be little doubt.
And without doubt, the liberal media, making this into a media circus, is loving every minute of it. For them, this hoo-ha can’t go on long enough.
