The Media's Tesla Contract Scam: Bias by Omission

February 15th, 2025 4:00 PM

Ya can’t make it up.

Here is the Washington Post this week headlining:

U.S. plan to award $400M vehicle contract removes reference to Musk’s Tesla

The lucrative contract was amended Wednesday to remove Tesla as the manufacturer after news outlets reported on the potential conflict of interest involving Trump adviser Elon Musk.

Not to be left out is MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. As noted in Breitbart:

MSNBC television host Rachel Maddow on Wednesday accused President Donald Trump and Elon Musk of “corrupt” self-dealing to purchase worth of $400 million of armored Tesla vehicles through a State Department contract.

And what did both The Washington Post and Ms. Maddow oh-so-innocently leave out?

In fact, as Breitbart made a point of noting in its story about the government purchasing $400 million of Elon Musk’s armored Tesla vehicles?  Here, with bold print supplied for emphasis, is the left-out fact:

The Biden administration orchestrated the armored EV contract, the State Department has put the contract on hold, and there was only one bidder on the contract during the Biden administration — Elon Musk’s Tesla.

In other words, both the Washington Post and Rachel Maddow (and also Time magazine in this story)

curiously left out of their respective stories the fact - say again the fact - that the $400 million Tesla contract was contracted by…..the Biden administration. Not by the Trump administration. Not by some in-the-shadows behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing with Trump doling out taxpayer dollars in the hundreds of millions to his pal Elon.

Which is to say, this one story alone is a prime example of just how the liberal media manipulates the news to cast President Trump and his administration as the bad guys running an evil empire.

As noted in this space only a few weeks ago,

These are not journalists, professionals practicing ‘independent journalism.’

They are, in fact, left-wing political activists masquerading as ‘independent journalists.’ They associate ‘independence’ with activism.

The objective in these Tesla stories is, it would seem, to leave the impression with unaware readers that Trump, barely weeks in office, is already at work - make that corruptly at work - dishing your tax dollars to one of his pals. In this case perhaps his most famous friend - fellow billionaire Elon Musk.

And perhaps some context is needed here.  Recall this headline from Fox News from only last month about the curious silence in Politico on the Biden family doings.

Ex-Politico reporters reveal editors quashed, slow-walked negative Biden stories 'with no explanation’

'Don’t write about the laptop, don’t talk about the laptop, don’t tweet about the laptop,' ex-Politico reporter Marc Caputo recalled

In other words?

A key fact about a government contract for Teslas is left out by The Washington Post and MSNBC’s Maddow, leaving the impression to the unaware that Trump handed out a lucrative contract worth hundreds of millions to his friend Elon Musk. When in fact the contract in question was contracted by - the Biden administration.

And when it came to negative Biden stories? Over in Politico “editors quashed, slow-walked negative Biden stories 'with no explanation.”

Ya can’t make it up.

Unless you’re the Washington Post and MSNBC.
