WINNER (74 percent of the vote)
Sunny Hostin: I’m “Embarrassed” by America, It Is a “Failed Experiment”
“I am embarrassed at our government. I’m embarrassed at our lack of healthcare. I’m embarrassed on the assault on the press. I’m embarrassed of our Congress. I’m embarrassed by the criminal felon president that is in the Oval Office that has a UFC cage on the White House lawn. I’m embarrassed about all those things. And I’m also embarrassed at how America is now seen across the globe. I don’t think that many Americans understand that we are part of a wonderful global community. And when you look at our allies, our allies are now giving us a one-star rating as a country. Why I am conflicted about this country because I feel that it is, at this point, a failed experiment, quite frankly.”
— Co-host Sunny Hostin on ABC’s The View, June 5.
SECOND PLACE (20 percent of the vote)
Scott Pelley: Unlike Trump, I’ve Been in Combat for This Country
“I’ve never worn the uniform, but I’ve been in combat for this country. In Afghanistan and Iraq, Kuwait. Been shot at. Spent nights in foxholes filling up with water in the desert. I’m not aware that the President of the United States has ever done any of those things for his country....You become a journalist because you love the country....There is no democracy without journalism. It can’t be done. And that is why I am a journalist.”
— Former CBS 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley on The New York Times podcast with Lulu-Garcia Navarro, June 7.
THIRD PLACE (6 percent of the vote)
Jim Acosta: “Tearing Down” of 60 Minutes is “Un-American” and is “Hurting This Country”
“It is absolutely un-American. It is absolutely contrary to the values and ideals of this democracy. And - you know - I don’t see anybody else really saying this kind of stuff, so I’m going to say this, that what they are doing is damaging to this country. Bari Weiss, you are hurting this country when you try to tear down an institution like 60 Minutes.”
— Jim Acosta on his Substack show, June 4.
