Whenever the liberal media run out of ways to attack someone, they turn to name calling, no matter whether it’s warranted or even true. Wednesday night’s The Last Word, with host Lawrence O’Donnell, was no exception. In his opening monologue, O’Donnell began: “Donald Trump proved once again today that he is the weakest man and the weakest mind that has ever occupied the presidency…”
This unfounded opinion was then followed up with a petty insult: “…when as he was leaving the White House and speaking to reporters over the usual helicopter noise in the background, which is the only noise that ever makes any sense when Donald Trump is speaking…” The host continued: “…the President was asked what his position is on banning assault rifles. And the President said, ‘Well, I can tell you that there is no political appetite for that at this moment.’ And then a lot of Trump gibberish followed after that. But the weakest president in history never said what his position is.”
O’Donnell continued to rant: “The man who ran for office lying to his voters that he was the only one that could actually get things done in Washington basically said there was nothing that he can do if Republicans don't want to do anything.” It seemed like an odd stance for O’Donnell to be advocating for the President to work in opposition to Congress, but then none of his rant made much sense.
Bitter on behalf of the liberal media, O’Donnell continued with the very original accusation: “Donald Trump then went on his photo-op tour of Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas. He did it the way a dictator would do it, exactly the way Vladimir Putin would do it. He did not allow any members of the news media to actually see what he was doing in Dayton or in El Paso.”
The host nobly continued: “And so we have nothing to report to you about what President Trump did or said when he visited hospitals in Dayton and El Paso we have only White House propaganda video. Any of the video you've seen of that stuff has all been delivered by the White House. We will not deliver that propaganda video to you.” Thank goodness the liberal “resistance” is here to protect us from evil dictator Trump who was trying to visit grieving communities peacefully, without the abrasive media disrupting them.
“The President took one question from one reporter in El Paso. It was an empty exchange as usual, not worth listening to as usual.” As it turns out, the President didn’t deliver anything the media could deride, and so, just like O’Donnell’s show, it was “not worth listening to as usual”.
Here is the transcript from the August 7 episode of The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell:

LAWRENCE O’DONNELL: Donald Trump proved once again today that he is the weakest man and the weakest mind that has ever occupied the presidency when as he was leaving the White House and speaking to reporters over the usual helicopter noise in the background, which is the only noise that ever makes any sense when Donald Trump is speaking, the President was asked what his position is on banning assault rifles. And the President said, "Well, I can tell you that there is no political appetite for that at this moment." And then a lot of Trump gibberish followed after that. But the weakest president in history never said what his position is. The man who ran for office lying to his voters that he was the only one that could actually get things done in Washington basically said there was nothing that he can do if Republicans don't want to do anything. He couldn't possibly lead them even though that's in his job description as the leader of the Republican Party. And of course Donald Trump was lying when he said there's no political appetite for banning assault rifles. A new poll out today shows overwhelming political support for banning assault weapons. 70% support. Donald Trump then went on his photo-op tour of Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas. He did it the way a dictator would do it, exactly the way Vladimir Putin would do it. He did not allow any members of the news media to actually see what he was doing in Dayton or in El Paso. And so we have nothing to report to you about what President Trump did or said when he visited hospitals in Dayton and El Paso we have only White House propaganda video. Any of the video you've seen of that stuff has all been delivered by the White House. We will not deliver that propaganda video to you. The White House has already used video shot at government expense for a campaign commercial that Donald Trump released on Twitter today showing the propaganda video of his visit to Dayton, Ohio. And so all the evidence delivered by the Trump team suggests that these were campaign stops today. They were not consoling visits by a sympathetic president who is grieving with the people, who have suffered such devastating losses. The President took one question from one reporter in El Paso. It was an empty exchange as usual, not worth listening to as usual. What you will hear in this hour is not a word from the President who would not allow the news media to cover his visits in Dayton and El Paso. Instead you will hear from people who spoke about these events today and who very clearly care about what happened in Dayton and El Paso and have proved that they care and are very worried about where the next mass murder is going to happen.
