Matthews, Guest Insinuate There Will Be a Terror Attack If Shutdown Doesn’t End Soon

January 24th, 2019 5:27 PM

Furthering a growing media narrative regarding the government shutdown, MSNBC’s Hardball host Chris Matthews and former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu (D) openly suggested on Wednesday (whereas other media types have insinuated it) that it could take a terror attack on America for Congress and President Trump to reopen the federal government.

Matthews alluded to this by reading from an Atlantic item by McKay Coppins, which stated that there’s “[a] grim, but growing consensus....emerg[ing] on Capitol Hill there may be no way out of this mess until something disastrous happens.”

The MSNBC pundit expanded on that, telling Landrieu that “you can get away with graft until the bridge falls down with the school bus crossing it” but “[t]hings get out of hand over time.”

He then made the overt assertion that America’s in danger of being attacked by terrorists due to the shutdown:

It doesn’t happen immediately. We have had the shutdown for over a month now. When is it really going to crack? Is it going to take something with air traffic control? Is it going to take something with TSA where somebody gets through with a — something they shouldn’t on an airplane? What’s it going to take the scare the people and the politicians to do something to end this? Your thoughts.

Like a good member of The Resistance, Landrieu didn’t disagree and instead went further: “Bad things always happen, and something bad is going to happen. We know that. I lived through Katrina, Rita, Ike, Gustav, the BP oil spill, the national recession and when that happens, you need to be ready to respond. Right now, the nation is in a weaker spot to respond. We should not wait. We don’t have to wait for that to occur.”

Whether it’s an allusion to it on the January 17 NBC Nightly News, that Atlantic piece, a segment on the Thursday edition of CNN’s The Lead, or tweets such as this one, the media’s ghoulish behavior has no end when it comes to furthering their agenda.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Well, The Atlantic magazine late last week reported: “A grim, but growing consensus has begun to emerge on Capitol Hill there may be no way out of this mess until something disastrous happens.” And I know, you know, you can get away with graft until the bridge falls down with the school bus crossing it. Things get out of hand over time. It doesn’t happen immediately. We have had the shutdown for over a month now. When is it really going to crack? Is it going to take something with air traffic control?

MITCH LANDRIEU: This is —

MATTHEWS: Is it going to take something with TSA where somebody gets through with a — something they shouldn’t on an airplane?

LANDRIEU: — Chris —

MATTHEWS: What’s it going to take the scare the people and the politicians to do something to end this? Your thoughts.

LANDRIEU: Well, let me speak to this issue. Bad things always happen, and something bad is going to happen. We know that. I lived through Katrina, Rita, Ike, Gustav, the BP oil spill, the national recession and when that happens, you need to be ready to respond. Right now, the nation is in a weaker spot to respond. We should not wait. We don’t have to wait for that to occur.
