Conan: Trump Upset with Merkel Because ‘Germany Hasn't Had a Great Leader Since’ Hitler

December 10th, 2015 2:21 AM

During his monologue on his TBS show Wednesday night, host Conan O’Brien continued the liberal news media’s comparison of Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler by joking that Trump was upset he lost out on Time magazine’s Person of the Year to German Chancellor Angela Merkel because the billionaire believes “Germany hasn't had a great leader since the 1940's.”

O’Brien reached that so-called punchline by first alluding to Time announcing their pick of Merkel over Trump and pointing out that Trump is “mad about that” and “really pissed.”

Before touting the fake reaction, O’Brien summarized Trump’s actual reaction: “True story, Donald Trump tweeted that he knew Time magazine wouldn't choose him and that they picked, quote, ‘[t]he person who was ruining Germany.’”

Just as NBC’s Tom Brokaw and others have done over the past days, weeks, and months, O’Brien then made the Nazi comparison: “Yeah. Then, Trump said Germany hasn't had a great leader since the 1940's. True story. [IN TRUMP VOICE] That guy knew what — he was not a loser, that guy.”

CONAN O’BRIEN: Hey, big story, Time magazine picked their Person of the Year. Yeah. Yes, there still is a Time magazine and they chose German chancellor Angela Merkel over Donald Trump. So — [CHEERS AND APPLAUSE]  He is mad and he's mad about that.

ANDY GRIFFIN: Of course he is.

O’BRIEN: He's really pissed. True story, Donald Trump tweeted that he knew Time magazine wouldn't choose him and that they picked, quote, “[t]he person who was ruining Germany.” Yeah. Then, Trump said Germany hasn't had a great leader since the 1940's. True story. [IN TRUMP VOICE] That guy knew what — he was not a loser, that guy.
