Sunday's NBC Nightly News took time to highlight a video that could be described as a sad caricature of how some Democrats hold government leaders they approve of as such idols that even their children can end up finding that that their own personal happiness depends on who is in the White House.
Introducing video of a four-year-old girl throwing a temper tantrum after discovering that President Barack Obama has to leave office, NBC anchor Kate Snow recalled:
This is, of course, President Obama's last year in office, a fact that has at least one of his supporters quite upset. Watch what happens when this four-year-old girl's grandmother, Caprina Harris, explains that Mr. Obama will no longer be the President.
Then came video of Caprina Harris with her distraught granddaughter:
CAPRINA HARRIS, GRANDMOTHER: But he can only serve two terms, and his time is up.
FOUR-YEAR-OLD GIRL: No! No!
HARRIS: It's okay. We've got to vote for another President.
FOUR-YEAR-OLD GIRL: I'm not ready!
HARRIS: Huh?
FOUR-YEAR-OLD GIRL: I'm not ready for a new one!
Snow concluded by reading part of President Obama's written response to the incident:
The video has had well over two million views on Facebook. Even the President himself responded, saying the girl should "dry her tears because I'm not going anywhere," and that "once I leave the White House, I'll be a citizen just like her. And when she grows up, she can get involved right alongside me."
One struggles to imagine a similar image of a child of Republican family having such trouble coping with Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush leaving office appearing on any national news show or even existing.
