Before even the first commercial could be aired on Wednesday's New Day, CNN managed to claim that repealing ObamaCare was wrong, the GOP had rigged the Senate process, and even suggested that McCain was a hypocrite for voting to open debate on health care.
Washington Post reporter Karoun Demirjian started the ball of delusion rolling with co-host Chris Cuomo and CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza expressing agreement:
DEMIRJIAN: One thing you have to point out in there, is that as much as John McCain was saying things that everybody needed to hear, especially at this time, he did still vote with his party, right?
CUOMO: Yes.
DEMIRJIAN: It's even a dilemma for the person who was delivering the measure--
CHRIS CILLIZZA: That's right--DEMIRJIAN: to actually live it out to its fullest extent, so.
Or maybe it's the Democrats who are being partisan and McCain was just being rational in opening up debate. But not if you are living in the leftist bubble, which is CNN. Cuomo then suggested, in an effort to defend Democrats, that it is wrong to repeal ObamaCare and that the Republicans have "rigged" the system.
That's the motivation. Here is the problem with that [Repealing ObamaCare], is that it is only as strong a move as what it leaves people with in the end. When they go to cover their kids and themselves or their young families or just their individual self, and that's where John McCain's wish is going to fall on deaf ears. The Democrats know, and it is a reasonable proposition, this process is rigged. You can have your debate, but this is not your typical promulgation process. The amendment structure here is largely controlled by the Republican majority. So the idea that the Democrats can come in with amendments and we'll all have equal ideas, that's a false premise, is it not?
And of course, Daily Beast Editor-in-Cheif and CNN political analyst John Avlon was there to provide support to Chris' claims:
AVLON: Oh, fundamentally. We're so far away from anything resembling that, you know, pollyannish image of Senate-past.
CUOMO: Because we had Cornyn on the yesterday saying, "Everybody can bring their amendments up and we'll debate them and we'll vote on them."
AVLON: That would be lovely if true. Woe if true.
CUOMO: Why is it not true?
AVLON: Because that's not the process in place right now. First of all, the ruling party will put forward with the amendments. That's the problem, also. There's a resistance even to the bunting of bipartisan reform, let alone regular order as John McCain said.
First of all, as has been explained a thousand times over, ObamaCare is a disaster. Introducing freedom and competition is the only way to fix the health care system.
Second, the media always seem to develop amnesia regarding the reign of Democrats. ObamaCare was perhaps the most partisan bill in American history. Not a single Republican supported it and for good reason. This idea that Democrats were taking Republican ideas is a downright lie. Basic logic can tell you this fact. The Democrats did not need a single Republican, meaning they were only truly debating among themselves.The majority party always controls the amendment process, duh. Harry Reid ran the Senate like a dictatorship. The man was the king of rigging. He would never have even brought up a bill that he or President Obama did not support. The hypocrisy of the left/media is limitless.
