Hayes Teams Up With Dems To Warn Georgia Pro-Lifers Are Getting Women Killed

MS NOW All In host Chris Hayes took his show to Atlanta on Wednesday, where he sat down with Georgia State Sen. Elena Parent to warn voters that the state’s pro-lifers are getting women killed.

Hayes led with a declaration rather than a question, “You know what's interesting today, talking to voters, Elena, abortion was obviously an enormously driving issue in 2022 when Roe v. Wade was overturned. We saw it rear its head in the midterms. It was a huge issue in 2024. The—there has been a kind of at the national federal level, a kind of strategic silence from the White House on the issue, because they understand that it's a 60-40 issue against them.”

He also claimed, “But we're in a state that has a heartbeat bill, meaning abortion is effectively banned in this state. And I will say that the women voters I spoke to today, every single one with maybe one exception, brought that up and talked about the governor's race, where, you know, that's make or break in this state.”

That probably says more about Hayes choosing to talk to voters who are predisposed to agree with him than it does the heartbeat bill itself, but Parent escalated the rhetoric. She agreed with Hayes, but added, “It sure is. We've had a number of women proven to have died because of the heartbeat bill immediately after it got signed into law, and that was before the governor made sure that he shut down any data being able to get to the public by firing the entire board that oversees that data. So, it's, you know, there's a lot of talk among women that Georgia isn't a safe place to be pregnant.”

Naturally, Hayes did not step in to ask for specific cases. People like Hayes and Parent have previously tried to cite Amber Nicole Thurman and Candi Miller, but both of those cases gained national attention due to wildly misleading and activist ProPublica stories. ProPublica certainly hasn’t “proven” anything, but MS NOW will never cease being blissfully unaware of its own hypocrisy when it bemoans pro-lifers alleging being responsible for somebody’s death.

Here is a transcript for the October 14 show:

CHRIS HAYES: You know what's interesting today, talking to voters, Elena, abortion was obviously an enormously driving issue in 2022 when Roe v. Wade was overturned. We saw it rear its head in the midterms. It was a huge issue in 2024. The—there has been a kind of at the national federal level, a kind of strategic silence from the White House on the issue, because they understand that it's a 60-40 issue against them. But we're in a state that has a heartbeat bill—

ELENA PARENT: We do.

HAYES: —meaning abortion is effectively banned in this state. And I will say that the women voters I spoke to today, every single one with maybe one exception, brought that up and talked about the governor's race, where, you know, that's make or break in this state.

PARENT: It sure is. We've had a number of women proven to have died because of the heartbeat bill immediately after it got signed into law, and that was before the governor made sure that he shut down any data being able to get to the public by firing the entire board that oversees that data. So, it's, you know, there's a lot of talk among women that Georgia isn't a safe place to be pregnant.
