About a year-and-a-half ago, transgender actor Laverne Cox claimed on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show that GOP ads were contributing to transgender suicides. On Wednesday, Cox returned to do some book promotion and to claim that all parts of the LGBT initialism are “divine.”
Host-of-the-week Desi Lydic wondered, “There are a lot of young folks out there who may have experienced some of the pain that you went through as a young person. What would you tell them right now in this moment in time?”
Laverne Cox stopped by The Daily Show to ruin the definition of "divine", "You are made exactly the way you are supposed to be, and your transness, your gayness, your lesbianism, your bisexuality, these are all divine." pic.twitter.com/HMiNehaBDw

The interview that aired on Comedy Central was only a brief part of a much longer interview that was posted on YouTube. In the extended interview, Cox claimed to have left Christianity because religion is a “corrupt institution.” However, Cox declared to have never stopped believing in God.
Back on the portion that did air on Comedy Central, Cox answered with something resembling pantheism and transcendentalism—the title of Cox’s book is Transcendent— “I would tell them to not be afraid. You’re not alone. You—there is nothing wrong with you. You are made exactly the way you are supposed to be, and your transness, your gayness, your lesbianism, your bisexuality, these are all divine. You deserve to be here, and you are beautiful and worthy because you are a child of God.”
Homosexuality and transgenderness are not divine. Neither is heterosexuality, for that matter. Only God is divine. Cox’s attempt at self-affirmation is really just self-idolization and the belief that you know more about yourself than God soon follows from that.
