If a nation decides to go to war, it has a moral obligation to those it sends into harm’s way to give them every possible advantage to allow them to win as quickly and with as few casualties as possible. Somehow, this basic idea was offensive to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show host-of-the-week Michael Kosta, who ridiculed and condemned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for articulating it on Wednesday.
Kosta cued up a montage of Hegseth clips by sarcastically hoping, “You know what? The plan for succession is not going well, how about the war itself? And I don't need to hear from Donald Trump this time. Surely, there must be a more sober voices in this administration.
The Daily Show's Michael Kosta seems to think the military should take it easy on Iran. After a collection of Pete Hegesth clips, he quips "Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah. Come on dude, not a fair fight? That’s not usually something you hear the good guys say which, remember,… pic.twitter.com/M4KRW3G5dd

The series of clips was not in chronological order, but it got Kosta’s point across, “America is winning. Decisively, devastatingly, and without mercy… Iran cannot outlast us…We control their fate…They are toast. And they know it…This was never meant to be a fair fight, and it is not a fair fight.”
Kosta was not a fan, “Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah. Come on, dude, not a fair fight? That’s not usually something you hear the good guys say, which, remember, that's us, right? Let's try again and this time avoid sounding so much like a bully.”
Another clip of Hegseth showed him adding, “We are punching them while they're down, which is exactly how it should be.”
Again, Kosta voiced his displeasure, “Dude, what the [bleep], dude? Why does the secretary of Defense sound like a cheesy movie villain?”
That then led into a second Hegseth montage, but this one was interlaced with various clips of movie and TV villains:
HEGSETH: America is winning, decisively, devastatingly, and without mercy.
MARTIN KOVE [AS JOHN KREESE IN THE KARATE KID]: Mercy is for the weak. An enemy deserves no mercy.
HEGSETH: We control their fate.
ALEX FALLIS [AS FISH FACE #1 IN DEEP TROUBLE]: We will decide your fate.
HEGSETH: We are punching them while they're down.
ERIC IDLE [AS DR. NIGEL CHANNING IN CASPER]: Always kick 'em when they're down.
HEGSETH: And President Trump got the last laugh.
MATT VOGEL [AS UNCLE DEADLY IN THE MUPPETS]: Looks like it's I who will have the last laugh.
Kosta returned to wrap up the Hegseth portion of his monologue, “Fun fact, that evil Muppet also got his start as a weekend Fox & Friends host, so—”
While Kosta’s hot take was dumb, and ironic considering liberals' concerns about a possible war without end, it was not surprising. On Tuesday, he thought the friendly fire accident involving the U.S. and Kuwait was appropriate joke material.
