After MSNBC Host Abjectly Thanks Her, Pelosi Says Thanks for 'Your Objective View'

April 28th, 2020 7:41 AM

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi appeared on Monday for yet another softball interview on MSNBC, this time with MSNBC Live's Stephanie Ruhle. This latest interview included interviewer and interviewee thanking each other their role in the current pandemic.

Ruhle began the interview by conveniently ignoring while Senate Republicans were ringing the alarm that the small business loan pool would soon be depleted, Senate Democrats obstructing its replenishment and her guest was at home showing off her ice cream collection. Instead, Ruhle made Pelosi out to be the hero, "I want to say thank you. You set aside $322 billion in emergency loans for small businesses. People across this country need it."

Nearly 20 minutes later, Pelosi wrapped up by reiterating the importance of the money: "And I didn't want to leave this conversation without mentioning the importance of the life, the livelihood. The life of our people, the livelihood of themselves and our economy and the life of our democracy."

This gave Ruhle another opportunity to praise Pelosi, "Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you for this additional $320 billion. American business needs it. I appreciate all that everyone in our government is doing right now to help us in this trying time. Thanks for your time this morning."

Really? Everyone? Would Ruhle ever conduct a similar interview with Mitch McConnell or say that about President Trump or Vice President Pence? Probably not.

Pelosi concluded the segment by returning the favor and thanking Ruhle, "Well, thank you for your objective view of it all because that's all very helpful. It's all very helpful. Thank you for your attention to this important issue. Thank you."

"Objective"  is not the proper word to describe a journalist who blamed Trump for a man drinking fish tank cleaner.

Here is a transcript for the April 27 show:

MSNBC Live with Stephanie Ruhle

STEPHANIE RUHLE: Right now I'd like to bring in the Speaker of the House. Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. Speaker, thanks for joining us. I want to say thank you. You set aside $322 billion in emergency loans for small businesses. People across this country need it. But already today, the head of the Consumers Bankers Association said that we would need a trillion dollars to meet small business demand. Is this $322 billion going to be enough?

NANCY PELOSI: Well, this is 322 billion on top of the 350 that we had done a couple of weeks before. I think it's all in the execution, as the Secretary of the Treasury says. Let us see how this works and where our needs are.

PELOSI: And I didn't want to leave this conversation without mentioning the importance of the life, the livelihood. The life of our people, the livelihood of themselves and our economy and the life of our democracy.

RUHLE: Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you for this additional $320 billion. American business needs it. I appreciate all that everyone in our government is doing right now to help us in this trying time. Thanks for your time this morning.

PELOSI: Well, thank you for your objective view of it all because that's all very helpful. It's all very helpful. Thank you for your attention to this important issue. Thank you.
