Since 2015, the nation´s liberal media, both mainstream and Hispanic, have super-glued themselves to the same rhetoric towards President Donald Trump, using his references to the problems brought about by illegal immigration as a mantra to compel conformity to their political agenda. The latest example came on June 25th, 2019.
Spanish-language news anchors, including Jorge Ramos and José Díaz-Balart, have taken Trump´s warnings about dangerous, illegal immigrants crossing the border as personal insults. Both Telemundo and Univision went about it AGAIN as recently as the launch of the Republican Party´s Latino campaign in Florida on June 25, 2019, as part of their coverage of the first Democratic presidential candidate debate, which was also held in Miami.
Watch as Univisión correspondent Lourdes del Río talks to Millie Herrera, former Regional Representative for U.S. Secretary of Labor during the Obama Administration, and past President of the Democratic Hispanic Caucus of Florida. (By the way, Herrera was "innocently" identified as a “Miami Resident” by Telemundo that same day in a short interview during their coverage of the debate in Florida.)
LOURDES DEL RIO, CORRESPONDENT, UNIVISIÓN: Democrats in Miami didn´t take long to react. Milly Herrera worked with the Obama Administration.
MILLIE HERRERA, FORMER STAFFER OBAMA ADMINISTRATION: The values that he (Vice President Mike Pence) says President Trump represents? No, because he calls us criminals, he calls us rapists, he calls us undesired people in this country. And now he comes over here looking for money and looking for votes. I think it´s a political tactic and it´s repugnant.”
Over at Telemundo, the report on the Latino vote report along the same lines:
CRISTINA LONDOÑO, CORRESPONDENDT, TELEMUNDO: Even so this analyst warns not to expect a miraculous change from the President.
LUIS ALVARADO, REPUBLICAN ANALYST: On the contrary, he will continue offending and that is part of his plan, in order to ensire that his base remains with him.
But how does the conservative Latino community feel about the constant references to the President´s 2015 speech - “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best… They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”
MRC Latino´s Miguel Leal interviewed Bianca Gracía, Vice President of Latinos for Trump, who was also at the Republican voter campaign event in Miami where the above mentioned interviews took place.
Her answer: “They´re strongly mistaken and if that´s the best that they have right now, that´s pretty sad that they can´t come up with a different message to combat this President,” referring to “the old stuff from 2015-2016 so often repeated by the liberals.”
With firsthand knowledge on the happenings at the border, Gracía mentioned the problems facing the overwhelmed Border Patrol agents trying to fulfill their duties with limited resources, as well as the communities at the border, including a large number of Latinos.
“I´ve heard stories that people are saying, ´you know these illegals are coming up and knocking on doors asking for money, or you know, they´re trying to break into houses´. That´s criminal. So how is it that our President can´t call things out for what they are?” “What´s happening now at the border with these illegals coming in and allowing MS-13, drugs pouring in, human trafficking pouring in, that´s criminal. It´s not criminal that our President has been trying to provide solutions to that problem and those issues that our Border Patrol agents are faced with at the border.”
In the words of García, her perception, and that of members of the conservative Hispanic population, is that the current administration is delivering, securing a low unemployment rate and providing jobs. In her words “our luchador (fighter) in the White House”.

MIGUEL LEAL, MRC LATINO: What would you have to say to those so called Democrat experts?
BIANCA GRACÍA, VICE PRESIDENT LATINOS FOR TRUMP: I think that they´re strongly mistaken. How can you say that he´s a president who is, you know, the best that they have, right, is to tell us the president says Latinos are all criminals. If that´s the best that they have right now that´s pretty sad that they can´t come up with a different message to combat this president. They´re still using old stuff from 2015-2016.
Well actually, you need to turn around and say, what´s happening now at the border with these illegals coming in and allowing MS-13, drugs pouring in and profiting from them, that´s criminal. That´s criminal. It´s not criminal that our President has been trying to provide solutions to that problem and those issues that our Border Patrol agents are faced with at the border. Not to mention the communities at the border that are heavily populated by Hispanics. They´re Latino communities. Those people are being affected the most. You know, I´ve heard stories that people saying you know these illegals are coming up and knocking on doors asking for money, or you know, they´re trying to break into houses. That´s criminal. So how is it that our president can´t call things out for what they are.
MIGUEL: Do you think there’s anything else that is attracting Hispanics as the reports have shown. the popularity for Trump with Hispanics has dramatically increased. I mean, we know that unemployment for Hispanics is at an all-time low. Do you have any other attributions to why this is happening?
GRACÍA: He´s been delivering, he´s been delivering a way for us,within his administration. Having a low unemployment rate, making sure that there’s jobs, the First Step Act. You know, things that are going to affect our communities, trying to bring solutions to social problems. Donald Trump is our luchador in the White House!
