It appears Univision and Telemundo will throw just about anyone on TV that will help push their favored side in the Supreme Court battle over President’s Obama’s executive actions on immigration, Texas v. United States.
So far this week, the “experts” on both networks’ national evening newscasts have been limited to pro-amnesty activists and spokespersons. It’s gotten to the point that the two giants of domestic Spanish-language television don’t apparently bother to even choose knowledgeable experts either, as we have noted in the past.
Case in point: Telemundo chose to throw on as one of their “experts” Antonia Álvarez, identified onscreen simply as a humble “undocumented mother” who travelled many miles to come to protest in D.C. However, she is much more than that. Alvarez is the co-founder and organizer of the Assembly for Civil Rights and an avowed leftist activist.
ANTONIA ÁLVAREZ: It’s worth it. We hope that the Supreme Court of Justice does exactly what its Constitution is saying, to maintain and protect our families.
Anyone can tell you that nowhere in the Constitution does it say that it is the job of the government to “maintain and protect” unauthorized immigrants.
It does, however, say in Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution that “[The President] shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed...” This is called the “Take Care” clause of the Constitution and it is at the heart of the case now before the Supeme Court, as stated by Texas Solicitor General Scott Keller:
“This case has always been about the separation of powers. What DAPA does is transform unlawful conduct into lawful conduct,” Keller said. “If the executive, the president has the power to do that, I think that should trouble every American, because it’s Congress’ power.”
If you’re watching Univision, you’re simply not going to see Keller on screen. If you’re watching Telemundo, you might catch just a couple of seconds. The rank journalistic malpractice continues.
