A left-wing climate activist promoted the United Nation’s proposal to force developed countries to pay for the “loss and damage” inflicted on the rest of the rest of the world through climate change.

Friends of the Earth’s (FOE) Head of Legal Gita Parihar blamed “the emissions of developed countries” for climate change on June 10. She said developed countries ought to pay up, because “harm caused by climate change that is now so severe that it can’t be adapted to” and that the effects of global warming were “becoming an everyday reality for developing countries.”

She lauded the U.N.’s proposed climate agreement for its Paris conference in December. She admitted the plan was “controversial,” but maintained that compensation for alleged climate harm “must stay in the Paris agreement.”

“Not only should developed countries make serious efforts to reduce their emissions, they should be offering redress and compensation for the harm caused,” said Parihar.

FOE has called itself a “bold and fearless voice for justice and the environment,” and has taken stances against free market capitalism that included opposing Keystone XL pipeline. The group also wants to close existing nuclear power plants and stop new nuclear ones from being built.
