Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box on Monday morning to discuss a variety of topics including the impending vote on Scottish independence.
At the end of the segment, co-host Joe Kernen joked that when he goes to Scotland to play golf he will wear a kilt to “mark my ball” to which Heitkamp crudely asked “which one?”
After the Democratic Senator asked “which” ball Kernen was referring to, the entire Squawk Box panel erupted in shock at the obscene nature of her comments. Earlier in the segment, the panelists discussed the likely hit Scotland’s economy would take if it left the United Kingdom. Kernen wondered what Scotland would call their new currency which, if they dropped the British Pound, would cause him tremendous confusion during his upcoming trip.
Will the media come out and condemn this offensive kind of language as they would if a Republican had made a crude joke about the female anatomy? Will Kirsten Gillibrand tell her she was inappropriate? Only time will tell.
