President Joe Biden’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency halted an advisory subcommittee that sought leftist entities and individuals to help suppress so-called “misinformation. Now it’s trying to deny any wrongdoing.
The defunct subcommittee reportedly focused its efforts on fighting so-called misinformation, disinformation, and malformation. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) tried to cover up its own mess by gaslighting in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF): “CISA provides broad guidance on foreign influence and disinformation tactics, mitigates the risk of foreign influence and disinformation by sharing accurate information, and amplifies the voices of state and local election offices on issues of election security.” The DHS announced in March that it scrapped the panel after criticism of its censorship efforts.
The DNCF said it obtained “internal meeting minutes, emails and notes” which revealed that “committee members frequently pushed to enlist outside left-wing groups and individuals linked to Democratic causes to further their efforts.”
Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO), who sued the Biden administration over censorship during his time as Missouri’s attorney general, told the DCNF that the report confirms the federal government intentionally censored Americans online.
“‘Government working with behind-the-scenes actors to censor speech should alarm everyone – regardless of political affiliation,’” Schmitt reportedly said. “‘The Department of Homeland Security has no business suppressing Americans’ freedom of speech.’”
Vijaya Gadde, the embattled Twitter executive who purged the Hunter Biden laptop scandal from Twitter and approved banning Trump from the platform reportedly led the CISA subcommittee.
Gadde, Twitter's former chief legal officer, University of Washington professor Kate Starbird, and former DHS official and Center of Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) advisor Suzanne Spaulding were members of the subcommittee, according to DCNF.
While the aforementioned members of the panel have a history of supporting the suppression of free speech, Gadde in particular has a sordid history of engaging in one-sided censorship, including censorship of former President Donald Trump. MRC Free Speech America reported last year that Gadde also played a key part in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop scandal on Twitter.
