Stossel Interviews Crowder About YouTube Suspension

December 22nd, 2021 3:52 PM

Libertarian author and pundit John Stossel interviewed conservative talk show host Steven Crowder about his recent ban from YouTube. Stossel discussed the ban with Crowder and further attacks from Big Tech.

“.@SCrowder has been suspended AGAIN from posting to YouTube,” Stossel tweeted. “What did he do that broke the rules? YouTube hasn't said. That's dumb.”

Crowder has recently discussed cultural issues, transgenderism, and election fraud. Stossel said that YouTube never disputed the accuracy of Crowder’s reports, the platform “just deleted them.”

Crowder emphasized that his efforts are about promoting free speech, regardless of whether or not he agrees with the statements being made.

“I think people should be able to say whatever they want,” Crowder added. “I shouldn’t have to justify every joke that I make.”

If a user receives three strikes within a 90 day period, the user will be permanently banned from the platform. Crowder is one strike away from being permanently suspended from the platform, so he has been streaming his show on Rumble, a video streaming alternative.

"...YouTube sent us the second channel strike," Crowder said on his show last Friday. "So this is going to prevent us from streaming on YouTube for the rest of the year." He also said no details were provided as to why he was suspended.

"As usual, they did not provide any details for the suspension," he added. "It's one of those things where we could say, we could guess…I mean, take your pick."

However, YouTube said Crowder violated the platform’s policy against “hate speech,” but the platform did not provide a specific example of hate speech.

"We have issued a second strike to the StevenCrowder channel for violating our hate speech policy, through repeated targeting of the LGBTQ+ community," YouTube spokesperson Jack Malon said. "Hate speech is not allowed on YouTube, and we remove content or issue other penalties–such as a strike–when a creator repeatedly targets, insults, and abuses a protected group based on certain attributes, such as sexual orientation or gender identity and expression, across multiple uploads."
