On Election Day, residents of several American states proved just how anti-life they really are - especially in Vermont.
Vermont state voters approved a constitutional amendment, Proposal 5, with at 72 percent margin to keep abortion at any point legal, VT Digger reported. Voters supposedly thought that killing babies needed to be an enshrined “right.”
Here's the amendment:
“That an individual’s right to personal reproductive autonomy is central to the liberty and dignity to determine one’s own life course and shall not be denied or infringed unless justified by a compelling State interest achieved by the least restrictive means.”
As it is written, the amendment is silent on any restrictions, which makes it safe to say that the law would allow abortion up until the moment of birth.
“The architects of Proposal 5 wanted to codify reproductive rights in Vermont’s constitution to ensure the strongest possible state-level protections,” VT Digger wrote.
The state is among three - also including California and Michigan - to pass constitutional amendments in favor of abortion.
Democrat lawmakers were thrilled with the news, with the VT Digger reporting the left “roared and whooped” after hearing that the anti-life amendment had won.
“So many of you stepped up and knocked on doors and went to rallies and contributed and talked to your neighbors and made sure that people were not bamboozled by the ridiculous falsehoods we heard. And this just makes me very, very proud of all of us,” Vermont Democratic Party Chairwoman Anne Lezak exclaimed.
Similarly, numerous pro-death groups praised the news.

Voters have spoken — Vermont just secured the state constitutional right to abortion, protecting access statewide.
Vermont already had laws on the books legalizing abortion, but codifying the unrestricted "right" at the state constitution level - a response to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade last summer - takes it to a new level.
The Catholic News Agency's Katie Yoder pointed to one take from the state dioceses’ bulletin waring that “the amendment ‘promises to enshrine unlimited, unregulated abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy in our state’s founding document’ and ‘would permanently block any attempt to protect the unborn — even those who can survive outside the womb.’”
This is the extremely frightening reality of what abortion is like in the state of Vermont. All we can do now is pray.
