Leave it to Lena Dunham to make weight loss political.
After US Weekly used her photo in a story about “20 Slimdown Diet Tips Stars Are Using,” the liberal actress and writer—a noted critic of body-shaming and dieting—responded with some characteristic political snark.
Posting a photo of the spread on her Instagram account, Dunham listed out twenty of her own personal weight loss suggestions. A quick skim revealed that the star was trolling the tabloid, while highlighting her progressive politics.
As a nod to the post-election proliferation of protests, Dunham included “marching your ass off.” Other tips were “a quiet rage that replaces need for food with need for revenge” and “constant sweaty dreams of dystopian future.”
The writer—a vocal advocate of abortion rights—noted the soul-crushing difficulty of “watching institutions you love from Planned Parenthood to PBS be threatened by cartoon mustache-twirling villains.”
Knocking the American Health Care Act, Dunham also listed several health problems from which she suffers, such as anxiety disorder, nausea and endometriosis. Following each of these by an asterisk, she noted at the bottom of her post: “Star indicates a pre-existing condition.”
Over the weekend, many Hollywood celebrities lashed out at the AHCA and GOP “felons” for their “entitlement,” “fraud” and “hypocrisy.”
