Now and then, celebrities surprise us. Counter to the L.A. culture, some stand firmly for life, for marriage or for faith. And when that happens, it’s positively refreshing.
In a December 28 video posted to her Instagram account, singer and outspoken Christian Ciara sat at the kitchen table with her two-year-old son Future, whom she shares with ex-husband Future Zahir. “Can we say our grace now?” she asked him. “‘Cause our food is here. Let’s hold hands. Are you gonna say it?”
With only a little help from his mother, the two-year-old prayed: “God is great, God is good. Lord we thank you for our food. By your hands we must be fed. Give us Lord our daily bread.” After Ciara clapped and exclaimed “Amen,” Future grabbed her hands and asked her to pray too.
The video, which has been viewed one million times, was captioned: “GRACE. So Proud Of My Baby! He can say it on his own now! I had to share! Have a great day everyone, and thank God for his GRACE.”
In another clip posted the day before, Future sat at the table with Oreos and milk. Ciara asked him to finish the sentence “You sir are…” and the toddler exclaimed: “Blessed!”
2016 has been a joyful year for the singer, who married Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson in July. Reminiscing about the days after her ugly breakup with ex-husband Future, Ciara told Essence magazine: “I remember telling my friend the kind of guy I wanted: a God-fearing man with a very fun spirit who loves kids and would really, truly care for me.”
Ciara found that man in Wilson, and the two garnered media criticism when they announced they would abstain from sex until marriage. But now, the happy family is expecting their first child come spring.
On the brink of 2017, it's nice to see some hope left in the entertainment world.
