Tears, Champagne and a Trump Piñata: How Hollywood Spends Election Day

Hollywood knows how to party hard, and many in the entertainment set are planning to do so on November 8. But some are not yet ready to celebrate.

Top “hillblazer” Jeffrey Katzenberg revealed that he will be “cheering” Hillary until he is “hoarse,” or “dragging people out of their houses and driving them to the polls — whatever I need to do.” (The CEO of Dreamworks Entertainment contributed $2.5 million to various Democratic campaigns this election season, so he’s invested in Clinton’s success.)

Katzenberg was joined in his activism by Scandal actress and avid Clinton supporter Kerry Washington, who gave birth just over one month ago. She tweeted: "Making calls 4 @HillaryClinton to FL voters while baby sleeps? #CampaigningFromMaternityLeave #ImWithHer (Caller sounded like me? IT WAS)."

Co-CEO of Propagate Content Ben Silverman and wife Jennifer Cuoco will host a large party at their home Tuesday night. The shindig, replete with banjos and food trucks, is open to people of all political stripes, although the couple themselves support Clinton. "My Republican friends always ask if they will be comfortable,” Silverman recounted to The Hollywood Reporter. "There's more diversity than you think at these parties, but this year, I don't know if there will be many public Trump supporters."

Degrassi actress Nina Dobrev revealed her excitement about the party she will attend at Breaking Bad actor Aaron Paul’s home. “We will be hopefully celebrating a positive outcome with a positive leader — not a negative one,” she declared. Paul plans to move to Canada if the results are “negative,” as Dobrev put it.

Actress Ali Wentworth and husband George Stephanopoulos will also consider leaving the country. “If Trump wins, we’ll start looking at real estate in Sydney, Australia. No crime, no guns," she declared.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, West Wing actor Richard Schiff called the “Trump phenomenon” the “last resistance of the old world” and “the last battle of the Civil War.” If we do the “right thing” and vote for Clinton, “we have the chance to be a beautiful and prosperous place in the country for the next 20 years,” he opined.

Once that “beautiful and prosperous” prospect is on the horizon, the champagne is coming out, several Tinsel Towners admitted. Director Jill Soloway just looks forward to having a “really good weep” and actress Molly Shannon will celebrate with a November 9 “presidential pancake breakfast.”

No matter the outcome, comedian Carl Reiner will bring out his Trump piñata…for the grandkids, of course. A great way to teach kids about respect for others who are different.
