Thank Heaven! October 20 was the last time the American people had to watch Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton yell over each other. Unfortunately though, it won’t be the last time celebrities make fools of themselves complaining about Trump on Twitter.
During the hour-and-a-half dialogue, Tinsel Town's predictably #ImWithHer crowd gathered on the social media platform to give their own running commentary. To say their remarks did not demonstrate liberal tolerance would be an understatement.
Moderator Chris Wallace tackled abortion frankly and early on. When Trump gave a solid, albeit poorly worded, condemnation of partial-birth abortion, celebs went wild with abuse.
Comedian Sarah Silverman attacked: “I bet my life that Donny’s responsible 4 abortions as many of his ‘pro life’ politicians R – they live above the laws THEY make.”
Singer Katy Perry expressed similar sentiments, retweeting the post “Donald Trump has paid more for abortions than taxes, lets be real” supplemented with her own view that this comment was the “tweet of the night.”
In his usual shocking style, Bill Maher went further, tweeting: “Trump on fetuses: In 20 years, they’ll be dating me!”
Many celebrities criticized Trump’s language regarding how partial-birth abortions rip nearly full-term babies from their mother’s wombs. Lizz Winstead, director of the rabid pro-choice group Lady Parts Justice League, denied the comment’s accuracy: “Rip The baby is NOT A THING,” she wrote. Yet, even Politico agreed that “technically Trump is right that in a handful of states,” although rare, “abortions may be performed late in pregnancy.” And gruesome as it is, partial birth abortions do indeed dismember babies.
Leslie Jones, known for her complaints about hateful tweets, yet again did not behave by her own standards. When Trump expressed his views on constitutional originalism, the actress queried: “'The constitution as it should be’ what the fuck does that mean? Hey you times change should the laws change with our times?!” Then when Trump boasted about his NRA endorsement, Jones got fired up again. “You honored by NRA. Man you are the fucking devil!” she exclaimed. Another fiery tweet exclaimed: "Shut the FUCK up and let me talk fucker! You damn fool! You damn fool! FUCKING joke! You should have to leave the country when you lose."
Stars also continued to jab the candidate’s appearance and nasal troubles, linking the latter to claims of drug usage. Winstead mocked his immigration comments by tweeting: “TRUMP: ‘We’re getting the Drugs, they’re getting the cash’ #BadHombres #ExplainsTheSniffles.” Silverman added: “Nuclear codes? We clearly can’t even trust this man with self tanner.”
Other tweets were just plain ad hominem attacks. Maher went crude, writing: “Oh for fuck sake, if Trump was any more of a pussy he’d have to grab himself.”
Disney Channel actress Zoey Deutch stooped to the same level, tweeting: “Pardon my french but it’s just hard to say it any other way?: Trump is a fucking piece of fucking shit.”
“Trump in H.D. looks like a pig’s ball sack with Mr. Potato Head lips,” jabbed actor Mark Agee.
Silverman clinched it with this: “If Melania doesn’t divorce that orange boil first thing 11/9 I’ll be flummoxed to that max.”
With less than three weeks till the election, the salty Hollywood commentary will probably get worse.
