An upcoming episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit highlights a politician’s failing campaign after he is caught in the throes of sexual misconduct allegations. The segment – titled “Unstoppable” – airs less than two weeks before the election. Coincidence?
NBC’s long-running NYPD show focuses on a group of detectives that target sex crimes; thus, following Donald Trump’s recent hot mic scandal, the opportunity to lampoon the candidate was apparently too good to pass up. The episode runs October 26.
Trump has been stewing in showrunner Rick Eid’s mind since September, The Hollywood Reporter suggested. “It is possible we may try to explore a story involving some sort of brash demagogue with political ambitions,” Eid hinted to THR last month.
Law & Order: SVU hasn’t shied away from politics in the past. In July, Joe Biden made a cameo appearance on the show to discuss measures aiding sexual assault victims.
According to TVByTheNumbers.com, Law and Order has a rating/share of 1.4/5 among adults 18-49 years of age, while total viewers add up to just more than 5.75 million people.
To date, Trump has been or will be lampooned in over twenty-five TV shows.
