Gotta catch ‘em all! Minorities, that is.
According to SNL’s Michael Che, spotting a minority at the GOP convention is as exciting as finding a rare Pokémon. So, in the spirit of America’s latest game craze, he created “Trumpémon Go” and jetted off to the RNC to catch what he could. Or, Che clarified, “As Trump would always say, ‘Let’s round up some brown people.’”
In a video published in The Hollywood Reporter and Entertainment Weekly, Che can be seen perusing the audience unsuccessfully before “catching” several black men and an Asian man.
The comedian then went up to a blonde woman and asked: “You see any rare minorities around?” When she didn’t respond immediately, Che explained: “I mean, you know, not obvious [ones], I’ve caught a couple black ones, but you know…” Then, the woman replied: “I’ve seen some, I guess, Hawaiians.”
Another man just walked away when Che questioned him. “Everybody wants to keep their trumpy minds to themselves. But I’m gonna catch em,” Che said.
During coverage of the convention, the SNL funnyman and fellow host Colin Jost chortled about whether Democrats or Republicans were funnier. Che, whose SNL sketches have made crude abortion jokes, declared: “I think Democrats are funnier, because they take themselves way more serious. It feels like the Republicans, they can't wait to be made fun of.”
After Jost mentioned that Republicans were better about laughing at themselves, Che sarcastically joked: “Yeah. That’s why we’re Republicans.”
Maybe Che should try “Pokémedia” next. Bet he’d really have trouble finding conservatives in the entertainment and news spheres.
