Appearing on Wednesday’s NBC Today, Saturday Night Live Weekend Update hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost both agreed that Republicans had a better sense of humor than Democrats. After a clip ran of the comedians doing man-on-the-street skits at the Republican National Convention, co-host Matt Lauer asked: “You're gonna also be at the Democratic National Convention. In your opinion, who do you think is funnier? Would Republicans be funnier or Democrats?”
Che replied: “I think Democrats are funnier, because they take themselves way more serious. It feels like the Republicans, they can't wait to be made fun of.” Jost added: “Yeah, they’ve been – people have been so nice and coming up to us here and they’re like, 'Oh, that’s great. You make jokes about us.' I feel like they – Republicans in general are better about laughing at themselves.”
Here is a transcript of the July 20 exchange:

MATT LAUER: So equal time. You're gonna also be at the Democratic National Convention. In your opinion, who do you think is funnier? Would Republicans be funnier or Democrats?
MICHAEL CHE [SNL]: I think Democrats are funnier, because they take themselves way more serious. It feels like the Republicans, they can't wait to be made fun of. So –
COLIN JOST [SNL]: Yeah, they’ve been – people have been so nice and coming up to us here and they’re like, “Oh, that’s great. You make jokes about us.” I feel like they – Republicans in general are better about laughing at themselves.
CHE: Yeah. That's why we're Republicans.
