Talk about a double standard.
In an recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment published Wednesday, Griffin defended fellow comedian Samantha Bee, called Roseanne Barr a “Nazi,” and said First Lady Melania Trump belonged in a “psych ward” because of President Trump. Her comments came roughly a year after a photo captured her holding the bloody, severed head of President Trump.
During the interview, Bee had a message for TBS, the network that she suspected “made” Bee apologize.
“If you don’t stand by her, I am coming for you,” she warned TBS. And while advertisers fled Bee’s show, Griffin tweeted her support of those who stood by Bee on June 2.
“I'll be watching @iamsambee's show @FullFrontalSamB on Wednesday evening (TBS),” she typed. “I'll tweet out the advertisers that have stuck by her so we can show them lots of love for not allowing the President of the United States to dictate their decisions.”
She pointed to Trump’s tweet asking why TBS wasn’t “firing no talent Samantha Bee for the horrible language used on her low ratings show?” after she called daughter Ivanka a “feckless c***.”
“The idea that we have a president that would tweet that, of course, a female comedian’s show should be canceled and she should be put out of work — I lived it,” Griffin said. And she was proud to admit that she herself has “been a scrappy feckless c*** my whole life. There, I just said it.”
Then she ranted about the misogyny against Bee by online users like Trump. To her there is a “double standard” between male and female comedians.
“It wouldn’t be an issue at all if it was a man. And if you are talking about a 57-year-old woman,” she said of herself. “I’m going to throw the ageism at you with the misogyny because this is a deeply misogynistic administration.”
She called the “old dinosaur” (aka Trump) “deeply ageist” as well. “Not even ‘Melanie,’” or, rather, First Lady Melania, “wants to f*** that guy,’” she continued.
Then she went after Melania, which had nothing to do with Bee.
“Melanie’s hiding in a hospital somewhere. I don’t blame her,” she bashed. “She should be in a psych ward just trying to recover from whatever the f*** he said to her at breakfast. If he ever sees her.”
As for Roseanne Barr, Griffin stressed that the comedian who made racist comments about Obama aide Valerie Jarrett was a “Nazi.” Bee and Barr “are very different stories, in that Roseanne is the real deal,” she said, before ranting:
“She’s a true believer. She’s a Nazi. She has Nazi sympathies. She has Nazi leanings, and even after her first Twitter apology, before she got fired, she tweeted: ‘David Hogg, one of the Parkland survivors, is a Nazi.’ And then deleted it. She’s a lost cause. Meaning, maybe she’ll get a job on Infowars with Alex Jones and, if she wants to, perpetuate her theories that Hillary Clinton had a child sex ring in the bottom of a pizza parlor. Because that’s what she thinks. That’s very different than All in the Family, the idea that the Roseanne show was showing the ‘real America.’ No, you are showcasing one nut job.”
So Bee and Griffin are allowed to have a platform despite calling Ivanka a “c***” and holding the bloody head of the president. Barr is not. There's the double standard.
