It appears too many conservatives have immediately forgiven our Big Tech overlords who are suddenly vowing to do a 180 and support free speech after censoring the left’s dissidents for years.
Suddenly, the billionaires responsible for de-platforming President Donald Trump and his supporters all happened to jump on the Trump train right as the chance that he’d return to the White House became imminent.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg ditched his DEI and biased “fact-checking” policies as he stood next to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos at Trump’s inauguration ceremony.
Have they actually changed their woke ways, or are they full of it?
That’s what author Ryan Anderson wants to know, as Bezos has yet to restore his book banned by Amazon in 2021 for exposing transgender ideology.
“Can a boy be “trapped” in a girl’s body? Can modern medicine “reassign” sex?” asks When Harry Became Sally, a book that aims to provide a “nuanced view of human embodiment, a balanced approach to public policy on gender identity, and a sober assessment of the human costs of getting human nature wrong.”
That view was labeled as a thoughtcrime by the Washington Post and New York Times, and therefore stripped from Amazon’s digital shelves conveniently right after former President Joe Biden took office.
The big tech monopoly claimed the book violated their rule against “offensive content,” for “fram(ing) LGBTQ+ identity as a mental illness.”
“Nonetheless, Anderson’s dissenting opinion disappeared from Amazon, and a message was sent to other authors and publishers: don’t cross the LGBT activists, lest they get you banned from the largest bookseller in the world, with no guarantee of a controversy-induced sales bump of your own,” lamented Nathaniel Blake, a senior contributor for the Federalist.
Now that even Zuckerberg has admitted these things were all part of the “dirty work” our former federal government had coerced platforms into, Amazon has a small chance to correct course.
The time to restore Anderson’s book was yesterday. Whether or not they do so will determine if Bezos is simply a Big Tech liar.
