Some of us may call ourselves fans of NCAA men’s Division 1 basketball, but I doubt any of our fandoms reach the extent of Craig Caswell’s.
After seeing the Lehigh Battle Hawks play the American Eagles on Tuesday night, Caswell achieved an incredible milestone: he can now say he has seen all 364 D1 men’s basketball programs play in person. Lehigh was the last school he needed to see, and they pulled off a 62-59 victory for college basketball’s biggest fan.
Caswell’s first college basketball game was between Dayton and George Washington in 2002, but his journey really picked up steam in 2008 as a student at Bowling Green. His wife, Jaclyn Meyer, has been right by his side in the 20-plus year journey, and since their dating days has been helping him accomplish the goal.
His journey has taken him to 131 different venues, and he says that Pittsburgh’s Petersen Events Center is his favorite arena due to its “intimate” feel.
Despite having consumed an enormous amount of college basketball, he has no intention of stopping anytime soon.
“This feels more like a milestone than a conclusion,” he said. “I’ll still go to more basketball games this season and beyond, only now with a fresh air of confidence with this achievement under my belt.”
Props to you, Caswell. Keep doing what you love!
