Former Obama Organizer, Village Voice Writer Attacks 'White America'

Want to see what sort of rationalizations the scary anti-conservative elements of the media use to justify why they hold any opponents of President Barack Obama's policies in contempt?

Check out the treatise on the state of “white America” from the Village Voice's Steven Thrasher. In a long-winded Sep. 29 piece full of invective, Thrasher contends that the “white brain, beset with worries, finally goes haywire in spectacular fashion.” Why? He insisted it was because of the election of Obama and a realization “white America” had lost grasp of the control power in the United States. (h/t Dana Loesch)

“About 12:01 on the afternoon of January 20, 2009, the white American mind began to unravel,” Thrasher wrote. “It had been a pretty good run up to that point. The brains of white folks had been humming along cogently for near on 400 years on this continent, with little sign that any serious trouble was brewing. White people, after all, had managed to invent a spiffy new form of self-government so that all white men (and, eventually, women) could have a say in how white people were taxed and governed. White minds had also nearly universally occupied just about every branch of that government and, for more than two centuries, had kept sole possession of the leadership of its executive branch (whose parsonage, after all, is called the White House).”

However, this isn't just your run-of-the-mill disgruntled left-wing Village Voice contributor. According to his LinkedIn profile, Thrasher purports to be a former operative for President Barack Obama as a “Deputy Field Organizer” at Obama for America, the campaign to elect Obama. In addition to that, this soldier of fortune also claims to have worked as a script supervisor on "Saturday Night Live" while Tina Fey was head writer.

Nonetheless, Thrasher continued with his line of reasoning suggesting that white Americans are afraid that “white boy is becoming outnumbered.”

“What was going on? Had decades of sucking down so much high-fructose corn syrup not only made Americans incredibly obese, but also messed with white brain chemistry to the point that some sort of tipping point had occurred?” Thrasher continued. “Not a bad theory, but no, there's a simpler explanation, with two parts: For the first time in their lives, baby boomers are hard up against it economically, and white boy is becoming outnumbered and it's got his bowels chilled with fear.”

There's only one flaw with Thrasher's loosely constructed argument. Obama outperformed the two previous Democratic presidential nominees, Sen. John Kerry, Mass., and former Vice President Al Gore, among white voters, according to exit polling following the 2008 presidential election. However, even though it appears some voters are having buyers' remorse with the current administration's policies, Thrasher has another diagnosis:

A devastated economy. Two wars, neither being fought with clear goals. Housing markets that resembled war zones. A health system crippled with costs. An auto industry cratering.

But surely, in a time of crisis, the country could pull together to fix this mess, right?

Can you help a brother on health care? No.

The economy? No.

Financial regulatory reform? No.

National security? No.

Now, some black folks can be forgiven for thinking, as they watched the political drama in Washington unfold over the past two years, that this was just another form of the same old thing they'd put up with in one way or another in this conflicted multiracial country.

But there is another explanation.

White people have simply gone sheer f**king insane.

Thrasher offered the usual out-of-context anecdotal evidence and insisted that opposition to Obama is all a result of the derangement of white Americans. He also offerered up the usual outspoken suspects as proof to back-up his theory: Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh, Fox News host Glenn Beck, Tom DeLay, Laura Schlessinger and Andrew Breitbart.

However Dana Loesch, a conservative talk show host and blogger, summed up Thrasher's entire effort succinctly in a Sept. 29 post on her blog.

“Here is a formula: Poorly write a too-long, not-smart-enough-to-be-snarky racist piece on the 'white brain,'” she wrote. “Because your business is worried that it might not get enough traffic on its own, hire a PR/social media firm to send out emails like the one below baiting bloggers into giving an otherwise undeserving piece written for shock's sake (you remember what I said about shock as art) some attention.”
