Liberal journalists are so willing to use anyone to bash Republicans that it doesn't matter a wit to them if their source has an arrest record and a disturbing past. Charles Barkley, a former NBA player and current TNT basketball commentator, bashed GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore and the conservatives in his home state of Alabama, but media lapped up his disdain for the Right without questioning his criminal past.
Speaking at a campaign rally for Democrat Senate candidate Doug Jones prior to yesterday's special election, Barkley unloaded on Republicans in his home state. “At some point, we’ve got to stop looking like idiots to the nation,” Barkley said. “I love Alabama, but we’ve got to draw a line in the sand.”
In an appearance on CNN after the election victory by Jones, Barkley said, “This is a great night for Alabama. You know, we’ve been stuck in a time warp for a long time. This is just a great night for Alabama, and for Doug Jones. I'm just so proud of my state. I love my state. We've got some amazing people here. Yeah, we've got a bunch of rednecks and a bunch of ignorant people. But we've got some amazing people here. And they rose up today."
Barkley said Moore is an embarrassment and listed the allegations of sexual harassment charges that derailed his candidacy. "First of all, Roy Moore was an embarrassment. Hey, listen; if any other man had eight women accusing him of sexual harassment, talking about how he really enjoyed slavery, how he thinks people are homosexuals should go to jail, they wouldn’t have even been in this election. This was more of a referendum on the state of Alabama, and I’m just so proud, I’m just so proud of my state.”
Never at a loss for words, Barkley kept up the attack. "All Roy Moore commercials was he's against abortion, he's against gay marriage and he talks about God. Those are not three good enough reasons to be in the Senate. We've got a lot more important stuff: Health care, we've got to improve our public school system, we've got to improve our roads."
What are the skeletons in Barkley's closet? CNN and other left-stream media were far too interested in the bashing on God, Moore and rednecks to get to that.
Nevertheless, on Oct. 27, 1997, The New York Times reported that Barkley was arrested in Orlando "for hurling a bar patron through a plate-glass window. The police said Barkley told the man as he lay bleeding on the ground: ''You got what you deserve. You don't respect me. I hope you're hurt. For all I care, you can lay there and die.'''
There was no need at the time for the NYT to shield Barkley from criticism because he wasn't bad-mouthing Republicans. Barkley, who has been married since 1989, had been hanging out with three women at the bar prior to assaulting the man.
In a 1991 NBA game in New Jersey Barkley spit at a small girl and was fined and suspended by the league.
In December 2008, Barkley was arrested for drunk driving in Scottsdale, Ariz. He ran a red light and told the arresting officer that he was on his way to pick up a girl to get oral sex. Barkley said the girl had given him oral sex the week before.
As Barkley's wife could tell us, this man is in no moral position to lecture Roy Moore or anyone else. But he's a useful idiot for the left-stream media for running his mouth and degrading Republicans.
