Another Hollywood awards show, another shameless politicization.
Jim Carrey, who has recently been garnering adulatory headlines from all over leftist media for his “incendiary” political cartooning and his general embrace of #Resist, made certain that he hit all the standard anti-Trump talking points at the Britannia Awards in Los Angeles.
Newsweek’s Jessica Kwong reported Oct. 27 that the Dumb and Dumber star, while accepting the “Charlie Chaplin Award for Excellence in Comedy,” ventured into the land of fabrication, relating to the crowd in attendance: “We need to be clear: Shamelessness is not, and will never be a superpower. It is the mark of a villain, kidnapping children is not what great nations do.” Kidnapping, really? If Carrey is talking about Trump’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy, it is odd that he never condemned Obama for constructing the detention centers that adorned the front pages of so many news publications this summer.
Carrey also had kind words for Christopher Steele, the British intelligence agent who assembled the Clinton-campaign funded dossier meant to tank Trump’s presidency: “Tonight I’d like to dedicate this award to those who remind us of our virtues … to Christopher Steele, who tried to pull a thorn out of the paw of an ungrateful beast.” Good to know that Carrey thinks unverified espionage by foreign agents is virtuous.
But Carrey’s praise of Steele is especially strange in light of his whole acceptance speech, where he earlier related that “One half of America at this moment believes there is a sinister deep state diabolically plotting, to what? Give them health care?” Well, he seemed to be okay with the deep state conducting espionage, so socialized healthcare should be the icing on the cake, in his eyes.
The celebrity left’s brazenness is only matched by its hypocrisy.
