It turns out that the uncanny ability to make people from all sides of the political spectrum hate you is a comic book-worthy superpower. The former FBI director will be starring in a gritty, true-crime graphic novel, titled “Political Power: James Comey.”
Published by Tidal Wave Productions, the comic book is the first in a two-part series. Since every great American superhero deserves an exciting and life-changing origin story, “James Comey” Volume One depicts the fateful events that made him into the straight shooting, non-partisan law man he is today. So say the comic book writers, at least. Their description of the story states:
As a teenager, James Comey was the victim of a home invasion by a masked man known as the Ramsey Rapist. The experience forever changed him, instilling in him a desire to seek justice for the oppressed and to prosecute those who do others harm. His desire to see justice served and success at prosecuting high-profile people like Martha Stewart would lead him to occupy the top cop job in the United States: The Director of the FBI.
And people thought getting bit by radioactive spiders and actually gaining super strength was interesting. Now we get thrilling tales of bureaucratic swamp elitists who don PR masks to fool people into thinking that they are important, heroic men. Eat your heart out Stan Lee.
Joe Paradise, the comic’s artist, was excited by the prospect of a Comey graphic novel, saying that he found the man’s story to be “fascinating.” He stated, “I didn’t know that much about Comey going into this book other than his reputation as a straight shooter who never let his politics get in the way of doing his best no matter who he was serving under.”
Well Mr. Paradise certainly sounds very creative. I doubt there are many people out there who would have come up with the idea of James Comey as an honorable man of the law.
The “Political Power” series has portrayed many popular political figures in recent years, such as Ted Kennedy, Condoleezza Rice, Barack Obama, and Rand Paul. Volume 2 of “James Comey” will also feature Donald Trump, as the story will turn to focusing on the Russia collusion investigation.
Well-received in the past, Buzzfeed touted the series as, “The Comic Book every child should own.” CNN said “It’s great that they are doing these,” and FOX claimed that the series “Offers readers a unique insight.” Well, after reviewing the contents of this new graphic novel, “unique insight” might be an understatement. It’s more like “liberal, anti-Trump fever dream.”
