Olympics: First Openly Gay Athlete Slams Mike Pence on Ellen

February 6th, 2018 1:02 PM

Olympic freeskier Gus Kenworthy is confused as to why a sitting U.S. vice president is the head of America’s Olympic Delegation for the 2018 Winter games, and he told Ellen DeGeneres that Mike Pence was a “strange choice” for the position.

Being one of the first openly gay male Olympians, Kevin told DeGeneres that he was “excited to soak up” his Olympic experience. He competed in 2014’s Winter games, where he won a silver medal. He said, “It’s going to be a different experience than last time around because I’m not in the closet.”

Now that he has made this decision, it’s time for Mike Pence to move out of the way.

DeGeneres asked Gus what he thought about Pence’s position, inviting him to take the lead while seeming at a loss for words due to the sobering revelation. She said, “I know that, uh, the Vice President has been named the, uh, leader of the Olympic Delegation. I, I don’t, er -- I’ll let you talk about that.”

Kenworthy claimed that it was a “strange choice for me,” and argued that it’s 2018 and the world is changing. Of course he referenced Ellen and all that she’s done for the progress, (Don’t forget, She received the Freedom Medal of course!) along with the other athletes that have “paved the way,” but he said “to have someone leading the Delegation that’s, like, directly attacked the LGBT community, and, um a cabinet in general that sort of stands against us and has tried to do things to set us back. Um, it just seems like a bad fit.”

His final point was that he felt “that the Olympics is all about inclusion and people coming together, and it seems like it’s not really doing that.” Ellen agreed with Gus and added that she too thought it was “a weird choice.”

This was not the first time this confusion and anxiety has been shared concerning this travesty. The other openly gay male Olympian, Adam Rippon, gave his take earlier this year. Huffington Post reported that the 28 year-old Rippon was flabbergasted upon hearing that Pence received the position because the VP is against LGBTQ rights.

Of course, the U.S. is sending 243 athletes to the Olympics, plus hundreds of trainers, coaches and managers, but President Trump didn’t think to consult the two openly gay team-members?

“To stand by some of the things that President Donald Trump has said and for Mike Pence to say he’s a devout Christian man is completely contradictory.” he stated, specifically referencing President Trump’s comments on "shithole" countries. Anyways, here’s another cringe worthy and hypocritical attempt from lefties with a platform to educate conservative Christians on their own faith.

America’s vice presidents have been performing mainly ceremonial duties for nearly 250 years. Making Pence endure the Olympics is in the grand tradition of Veeps attending the funerals of sundry potentates and minor conferences on recycling in emerging nations. Gaia forbid that America’s second-in-command is a representative at an international event, especially when he doesn’t abide by the gospel of Hollywood groupthink. Give me a break.
