NBC's 'This Is Us' Season 2 Premieres With Jab at Hillary Clinton Loss

September 26th, 2017 10:56 PM

The season premiere of NBC’s hit show This Is Us aired Tuesday, September 26, and it was as fabulous as always, trending on Twitter as the social media platform included a box of tissues emoji for every This Is Us hashtag tweeted.

It was about five minutes in that I did my usual cry and about fifteen minutes in that I progressed to the ugly cry. But by the end? I progressed to the rare hideous cry. Wow. Just wow.

But it was about seven minutes into the episode, “A Father’s Advice,” that I had to laugh. The 2016 Presidential Election came up and the writers handled it fairly with humor, even noting two popular (well, with the right at least), outspoken, black, female conservatives:

Annie: Daddy?

Randall: Yeah, baby?

Annie: Happy birthday!

Tess: Happy birthday! Hey-yo!

Randall: Thank you, girls.

Annie: Daddy?

Randall: Yeah, baby?

Annie: How come Mommy goes to work now, and you stay home and are the girl?

Randall: Annie, who... It is incredibly old-fashioned and upsetting that you just said that. It is perfectly normal for a mommy to go to work and a daddy to stay at home. Women can do anything. Look at Hillary Clinton. Hmm?

Tess: She lost.

Randall: Yeah, but she almost won. Just eat your breakfast.

Beth: MMM. Smells good. They're eating.

Randall: Who, Stacey Dash and Omarosa over there? Yeah, they're chowing down. It good?

Beth: Mm-hmm.

Randall: Thank you.

Mic drop, Tess! Mic. Drop.
