TBS's 'The Detour:' Moms Want Threesomes and Gay Sons

April 12th, 2017 12:56 AM

Tuesday night’s episode of TBS’s comedy The Detour, “The Dilemma,” featured quite a few dilemmas for main characters Nate (Jason Jones) and Robin (Natalie Zea). But one dilemma in particular ended up being a breeze…how to find someone to participate in a threesome.

Apparently, it’s “easy now” to proposition a complete stranger to engage in the act:

Robin: What if we try a threesome?

Nate: Come on. With who?

Robin: I don't know. Some dumb, cute girl.

Nate: Really? Some random stranger on a bus? That'd be awkward.

Robin: No, it's actually really easy now.

Nate: It's not.

Robin: Trust me. Watch this. Excuse me? Hi. Um... Do you think my husband's hot?

Girl: He's okay. Like, uncle hot.

Nate: Sorry, what?

Girl: Yeah, you know, like, golf hot.

Nate: Golf hot? That's…that's not hot. See? It's already awkward.

Robin: No, it's going really well. Um, my husband and I love your jeans.

Girl: Thanks. You guys looking for a threesome?

Nate: Holy shit. It's that easy?

Robin: So easy.

Nate: How did you know it was that easy?

Robin: Mom blogs.

Girl: You guys have a nice hotel? We're sleeping like five to a queen, so I could splinter off.

Robin: Can we do that?

Nate: I -- I-I would...I would finish way too quickly.

Girl: That's perfect. We got in the lottery for that B. Frank show. It's reinventing history.

Robin: It's not.

Nate: It -- I can't. I'm sorry. I can't.

Girl: Then why did you compliment my jeans?

Nate: She did.

Robin: I was being literal. Sorry. Sorry.

Girl: Well, they're great jeans.

Robin: They are great jeans. I meant it. I just want you to remember that you said no to that forever and ever.

Nate: Maybe sometime in the future we can

Robin: Nope. No. It's now or never.

Mom blogs? I don’t know what kind of mom blogs The Detour’s writers have been reading. But the mom blogs I read cover topics such as parenting, crafts, and even date nights and romance. Fortunately though, threesomes have never crossed my mom blog radar.

It might not surprise you that the show’s co-creator is Samantha Bee, who is a notoriously polarizing liberal. In fact, The Detour is loosely based on her life with husband Jason Jones (who plays the role of Nate), so it kind of makes you wonder…

Tuesday night’s episode ended with another twisted, leftist view of motherhood. As Robin worries that she might be sent to jail for crimes she committed in the past because of her father, who certainly didn’t give her the best example of how to be a good parent, she frets that she might miss out on a crucial bonding moment with her son:

Robin: What about Jared? What if he realizes he's gay, and I'm not there to give him a great big hug and tell him it's what every mother hopes for?

Gay sons and threesomes. Yes, every mother’s dream. If you’re Samantha Bee, that is.
