Sometimes, activists tend to miss seeing the forest for the trees. This applies to Hollywood especially.
Amr Salama, an Egyptian director who wins elite awards told The Hollywood Reporter that he was creating a film as a response to the Clint Eastwood war drama American Sniper. The working title of the film? Iraqi Sniper.
The film, described by Salama as an “anti-war film,” follows the villain of American Sniper, a man named Mustafa who was on the side of the Iraqi insurgents.
Hollywood Reporter admitted that there was a real version of Mustafa, whose accomplishments were “thought by some to be hundreds of kills.” How following a man like this falls under the category of “anti-war” is anybody’s guess.
Egyptian producer Mohamed Hefzy, who signed on to the project recently, explained: “He’s a … complex character.” He also thought this story would have an “international appeal.”
Actor Sammy Sheik, who originally played the role of Mustafa in American Sniper, is allegedly signed on to continue his role. He is best known for his roles on such television series as 24 and Homeland.
