As Hollywood reacted to the incidents that happened on Saturday in Charlottesville, some people definitely overreacted. Lorde, a pop star from New Zealand, offered her two cents on Twitter.
On Saturday, August 12, as everyone panicked over the white supremacist rally, Lorde tweeted out, “Being a privileged white non-US citizen, I feel like tweeting to reinforce how horrific POC treatment here is unnecessary and inappropriate.”
Right, because things are so good in terms of racial tension in New Zealand.
But then she went on to say, “I just want to say i’m so, so sorry. All white people are responsible for this system’s thrive and fall. We have to do better. I’m sorry.”
First of all. She isn’t even a U.S. citizen. Why is she criticizing how the U.S. handles things? If you don’t like it here, Lorde, go back to New Zealand.
Second of all. Really? All white people are responsible for racism by merely existing? That’s some statement of white guilt. It’s also virtue signalling.
Don’t forget: Lorde in the past has admitted that she’s ok with being violent in her music videos because it breaks the standard of women being “passive.” In fact, burning alive “douchebag boyfriends” is one of her “life goals.”
She really has room to talk.
