Tonight's Fresh Off the Boat episode, "The Real Santa," featured a hilarious scene mocking political correctness run amok in our schools at Christmas time.
When Evan and his parents go to the third grade school play, they are told that a new law bans "any religious, spiritual, or gender-y connotations." Instead of Santa, this year will feature a "pan-cultural seasonal entity!"
-Teacher: In our past shows, we've had visits from Santa, Rudolph, and little-people elves, who, with gusto, threw themselves into the crowd to be passed around. However, a new state law was just passed called "Kathy's rule," which prohibits any religious, spiritual, or gender-y connotations in state-funded children's theater. So this year, please welcome the pan-cultural seasonal entity.
-Panny: I respect you!
-Evan: Where's Santa?
-Teacher: Firmly rooted in Christian tradition, unlike Panny here, who is all things because it is nothing.
-Evan: But it's Christmas. There should be Santa.

Sadly, this is art imitating life. The War on Christmas is real. Santa has been banned in some schools, the colors red and green aren't allowed at "winter parties," the words to 'Silent Night' have been changed, and Christmas has been removed from the calendar all across the country.
Tis the season to be PC. Glad to see Fresh Off the Boat making a mockery of it.
