WNBA Hopeful Enes Kanter Did More Than Wear a Shirt Before Being Ejected

Former NBA star Enes Kanter Freedom did more than just wear a shirt defining the noun “woman” before getting kicked out of Sunday’s WNBA game between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever.

Kanter has threatened to identify as a woman and enter the 2027 WNBA draft if the women’s league refuses to define womanhood and continues to allow biological males to seek to join the league. Kanter was ejected after Sky guard Natasha Cloud left the court to shout and curse at him for supporting the Fever’s Sophie Cunningham and wearing a shirt reading "Woman noun. Adult human female."

Cunningham has drawn hatred and criticism from media and players for saying girl athletes shouldn’t have to compete against biological males.

“I just got kicked out of a @WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA!,” Kanter posted to X.com after being escorted out of the arena by security during the third quarter of the game.

 

“Careful what you wish for, @WNBA,” Kanter wrote in an earlier post of a photo of him showing off his shirt in the stadium during the game.

Kanter's next post featured a photo of himself standing in front of a women’s restroom, invoking league rules:

“It’s halftime and I need to use the restroom…rules are rules @WNBA.”

 

 

He did not, however, actually use the women’s restroom.

Before the game, Kanter stood courtside with his hand over his heart during the National Anthem – a gesture of respect for America that he says in a post that he’ll encourage his future WNBA teammates to emulate:

“In 2027, as the new face of the @WNBA, my first goal will be to encourage every player and every coach to stand for the National Anthem with their hands over their hearts.”

 

While Kanter was ejected for wearing a dictionary definition, the team has announced that it will not punish Sky for accosting a ticketholder attending the game.

Chicago police had to escort Kanter into the arena before the game, because he was being confronted by hecklers. Kanter clasped his hands behind his back as he peacefully made his way through the mob.
