Abdul El-Sayed, now the Democrat nominee for an open Michigan U.S. Senate seat, received a total of $115,000 from members of the Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Texas-condemned terrorist organization, a new investigation reveals.
Among the most notorious of these contributors is Nihad Awad, one of CAIR’s founders and its current executive director, research by Fox News reveals. Awad was captured on FBI wiretaps plotting to undermine Israel-Palestine peace negotiations while attempting to rally American support for Hamas, a terrorist organization, according to Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) in a Senate hearing Wednesday. As chairman, Cruz led a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Oversight, Agency Action, and Federal Rights, in which he discussed the Muslim Brotherhood’s influence operation in America, in light of El-Sayed’s primary victory. Democrats boycotted the committee, according to Senator Cruz and CSPAN reporting.
The Muslim Brotherhood is an international organization which seeks to promote Islamic values throughout the world. It is widely alleged to have founded Hamas, and is condemned by several countries as a terrorist organization. In Wednesday’s Senate hearing, senior litigation counsel for the National Jewish Advocacy Center, Arielle Klepach, exposed the Muslim Brotherhood’s mission in the U.S, in her testimony:
“The Muslim Brotherhood told us their strategy for the West, but don’t take my word for it, they put it on paper. In 2004, the FBI seized a memorandum from the home of Muslim brotherhood member and Hamas U.S.-based archivist Ismail Elbarasse. The memo, written in 1991, described the work of the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States as ‘a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying Western society from within.’”
CAIR has its origins in a Muslim Brotherhood plot that sought to do just that, according to a Capital Research Center’s Influence watch report on CAIR:
“The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) grew out of the Islamic Association for Palestine, a group that was created by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. The Muslim Brotherhood also identified the Islamic Association for Palestine as one of its United States fronts.“In 1993, the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee organized a secret meeting in Philadelphia that was surveilled by the FBI. At the meeting, two Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP) officials (Nihad Awad and Omar Ahmad) claimed to discuss the need to create a new ‘neutral’ entity for influencing U.S. policy and opinion to support Hamas because “it [was] known who we are.“A year later, Nihad Awad and Omar Ahmad formed CAIR. Ahmad served as CAIR chairman until 2005, and Nihad Awad remains the executive director of CAIR.”
Among CAIR’s actions in America are the drafting of a school curriculum that reframed 9/11 as “a predictable consequence of U.S. foreign policy,” according to Klepach.
El-Sayed’s victory in Tuesday’s Michigan primary has left many Democrats hesitant about supporting his Senate bid, due to his extremist progressive agenda. Weeks before the election, Representative Hillary Scholten (D-MI) told CNN that she was hesitant to support El-Sayed because of his association with radical internet streamer Hasan Piker, who has claimed that America deserved 9/11.
Following his victory, she released a statement that indicated she would “work with anyone committed to lowering costs, expanding affordable healthcare, creating more opportunity, and fighting corruption,” though in this vague statement she stopped short of an actual endorsement of El-Sayed.
