Us Magazine Launches Tabloid Style Attack On Sarah Palin

  • Bookmark and Share

Word is out that high profile Barack Obama supporter and Us Weekly Magazine publisher Jann Wenner is using his magazine to smear Governor Sarah Palin from grocery store check out aisles and newsstands across the country. (h/t Michelle Malkin)

The tabloid style attack hypes the ridiculously out of context claims of the Huffington Post that Sarah Palin ridiculed State Senate President Lyda Green in an interview with radio talk show host Bob Lester on the popular Bob and Mark radio show

On January 15, Alaska governor Sarah Palin laughed along with an Alaskan shock-jock DJ who called her political rival Lyda Green a "cancer," a "b#@ch" and ridiculed her weight. (Green is a cancer survivor.)

The Us  magazine cover story is filed under the URL slug "sarah-palin-very-difficult-to-work-with". This particular smear job on Sarah Palin was literally spoon fed to the magazine and bloggers on the left by the Huffington Post that featured a hacked up YouTube version of the interview that was edited to take Governor Palin out of context and make the incident sound worse than it really was. (Full interview here)

The claim is that Palin should be held responsible for the comments made by morning radio host Bob Lester as he interviewed the Alaska Governor about Senate President Lyda Green's animosity toward her. In that interview Lester called Green "a cancer" for standing in the way of Alaska's political progress as well as "a bit@#". In all instances Palin appeared to be caught off guard and gave a short laugh while Lester continued to criticize Green.

But that synopsis left to stand on its own is woefully out of context. It doesn't explain why the media suddenly loves a socially conservative Republican insider that opposed reform nor does it honestly portray Sarah Palin's conduct in the interview.

The interview focused around Lyda Green's attempt to delay the start of the Senate's legislative session to coincide with the start time of Sarah Palin's state of the state address. A month earlier Palin had requested and received approval from the House for a special 6:00 p.m. start time so that she could attend her son Track's Army boot camp graduation to the infantry. Green was well aware of this fact and appeared to be stonewalling as some sort of plan to make life difficult for Governor Palin. This became evident as the excuses for not being able to make the 1:00 p.m. scheduled start of the Senate legislative session began to fall apart. All of this was explained by Palin in the full uneditied clip of her radio interview.

Lester specifically took Green to task for standing in the way of a mother's attempt to attend the graduation of her son before potentially being deployed to Iraq. He further criticized Green for playing games with Alaska's political process for the sake of making life difficult for Palin.

The Alaska Daily News substantiates the rift between Palin and Green. According to their report much of the animosity between the two stemmed from the fact that Green was a Republican insider that opposed Palin's reform efforts. It seems that Green made it a point to take issue with Palin, which she apparently did often and continues to do today. Thus making Green an instant hero of the American left that has suddenly found all sorts of reason to defend and support a Republican insider. In the case of Us Magazine their hit job is framed within the context of Green's perspective. She how this works?

Green appeared in the Us Magazine article to specifically take pot shots at Governor Palin and criticize John McCain's vetting process. You can actually feel the cynicism when Green mentions that Sarah Palin personally called her to apologize.

Green's comments were followed up by quotes from a pro-abortion activist from NOW that conveniently attacked Palin on the issue of abstinence because her daughter is pregnant.

So what did Green think when she heard Palin was John McCain's vice presidential candidate? "It's been very difficult to work with her," she tells Us Weekly. "I wish there had been more vetting."

Monday, Palin released a statement confirming that her daughter Bristol, 17, was five-months pregnant.

See more shocking teen pregnancies.

Mom-of-five Palin is antiabortion (even in cases of rape) and opposed to sex-education classes (she believes in abstinence instruction for teens).

In the wake of the announcement about Bristol, questions have begun to arise about the governor's candor and McCain's judgment (The New York Times reported that McCain's camp vetted Palin only the day before her selection was announced.

"It's conceivable a 17-year-old girl just screwed the GOP," Democratic strategist George Lakoff tells Us Weekly.

Though hailed by many family-values supporters for standing by her daughter during her difficult time, Barbara Belknap, former president of the National Organization of Women's Juneau chapter, is less glowing: "Here's a textbook case of how abstinence - only doesn't work in practice, even if your mom's the governor."

Yes, and here is a textbook case of political activism being perpetrated upon the American public by an over the top supporter of Barack Obama.

Us Magazine reaches about 12 million readers, most of whom are female. As a grocery checkout aisle fixture it will be seen by many more. Wenner, who is also the publisher of Rolling Stone and Mens Journal is well aware of this. It is only a matter of time before this twisted reality makes its way into one if not both of his other publications.

I have watched politics for

I have watched politics for quite a while but I have never seen anything like this. This is insane. Utterly and completely unhinged. I would not be surprised if they had a plane fly around the football fields withthe banner: Palin is a lesbian!

Oh that right, they did that to our last VP daughter.

We canonly hope that the American public can see through this tidal wave of hate.

This is what happens when a political party is ruled by emotion!!

The party of compassion..

Wait, what?

Babies, Lies, and Scandal?

Babies, Lies, and Scandal? What lies? And there is no scandal except that manufactured by the media.

But this is what magazines like "Us" do; it's their bread and butter. They make the headlines as salacious as possible. (They would have a huge headline that says "Baby not Sarah's!" and in tiny letters at the bottom have the explanation "Daily Kos claims")

They dig up dirt, they try to get friends and co-workers to say mean things about the person; they magnify the slightest flaw.

The real shame of this story is that the so-called "real" media have not operated much differently.

I turned on PBS for 3

I turned on PBS for 3 minutes last night following the convention speeches. There was a panel discussing, among other things, the "vetting" of Palin. What struck me was a comment from one of the panelists: "We have to wait to see what else our reporters find out in Alaska". Apparantly there is a very large left-leaning investigation going on right now. The panel leader made the comment: "It's obvious vetting did not take place. One of the town's store clerks told me this was the first time anyone had ever asked him a question about Palin". WHAT!!???

Newt Gingrich, on Fox News last night, had a good comparison -- how many reporters have been assigned to dig dirt on Palin -- vs. the number of reporters that have been assigned to read thru the public-available records of Obama and his terrorist and real-estate friends?

These people are very hateful. And they are very, very afraid.

"We have to wait to see

"We have to wait to see what else our reporters find out in Alaska".

Don't you love it? They are blatantly announcing the fact that they are not finished yet.

Pond scum is a layer of rose petals compared to these people.

Pravda

Newsflash! We just found a school crossing guard who once reprimanded Palin for jaywalking. We'll keep you informed on this developing story.

Dead moose scandal alert!

I'm waiting for a picture of a dead moose lying in the brush.

MSM reporter: "Look at this! Could this be the result of a gun-toting, wild-eyed Sara Palin hunt? Is this what excites Sara Palin? Is this what the GOP thinks America wants to be a part of ? . . . And, we read on some web-site that this moose was pregnant!

Actually

I like to see a live moose in one of these msm reporters rooms. Then they can try their spin on it.

If it was Olbermann in the room he would offer the moose a drink.

wink wink, nod nod.

lmao

Yup...)

The left is a cancer. The

The left is a cancer. The only thing a cancer does is to destroy the body -- it has no other purpose. If left alone, the body will die, along with the cancer -- but the cancer doesn't care. It is mindless, and if left to spread, it will win. The only cure is to destroy the cancer, using agressive techniques.

Joe Leiberman certainly recognizes this. His speech to the Republican convention last night was absolutely remarkable, in the way he stated that Democrats can not, should not, vote for Obama -- for the sake of the country. It's courageous acts like that, and the selection of Palin, that's necessary to destroy this cancer.

What do you expect

from a magazine that depends on spurious stories twisted to make it interesting? The only difference from it and the tabloids is that The Inquirer actually did investigative journalism for the articles on John Edwards.

Babies, Lies and

Babies, Lies and Scandal.

For a second there I though USeless Magazine was finally front paging JOHN EDWARDS.

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

Babies, Lies and

Babies, Lies and Scandal.

The headline of the front page is very telling regarding what this rag thinks of children. Usually a list of perons/things has some associative relationship. Examples: Milk, butter, and cereal. Car, driver, and road. Democrats, Lies and Scandal. etc.

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16:31

Babies, lies, and scandal

Babies, lies, and scandal sound more like three thorns in the side of Democrats and liberals.

Us and Them

Not at all surprising that Us and Them would do this.  And, of course, they have led the charge in creating the Obama Personality Cult.  Thanks to them and countless other mags that populate the checkout line at grocery stores, I can't get away from Obama.

As I say, if he wins the election, you will not be able to go anywhere in America without seeing him due to the personality cult.

Although I must say I did not know that Rolling Stone was published by the same people...

Anyways, the Left once again cannot argue ideas, but can only smear.  Any wonder why I can't even listen to them anymore?

Whoever casts a vote for Obama-Biden is nothing more than a common thief.  Whoever fails to vote against them is nothing more than a moral coward.

What Infuriates Me

What made me furious was that Michelle Malkin had the note that was sent along with this magazine from the spokesman of Wenner Media to recipients of the magazine in St Paul that was along the lines of "Ha Ha.  We have 12 million readers, almost all women."

I saw this covered on FoxNews this morning.  I pray to God that Rush and Bill O'Reilly pick it up, too.  They have an audience of more than "12 million readers" a number which I highly doubt.  That Wenner spokesman is a criminal bragging about his crime, not a smart thing to do.

Not so sure

The press is getting too cute, with no comment I showed the page to the wife, she was impressed. So ....

She is not impressed with the drive by media's choice of a "fake American" candidate.

Wenner & Co. are rancid weasels

Too bad US couldn't find a crappy picture of Sarah to dovetail with their above-the-fold 'allegations bullet points' instead of the happy, beaming one they apparently HAD to go with.

The National Enquirer is just a shabby supermarket tabloid when it came to the Silky Chronicles, but US is a well respected national news magazine. Right.

THEY'VE GOT NOTHIN'!!!!!

The DNC attack machine can't find ANY dirt on Governor Palin, instead they attack her family. Doesn't the MSM realize that a women who can dress a moose can certainly gut a feeble, despicable argument.

Fair magazine cover

OK Magazine has done its best to be fair and balanced.

The title header is a little uncomfortable, but I like their decision.

Rocky & Bullwinkle '08

As long as this magazine

As long as this magazine cover is on display in any store I enter, I will use my time waiting in line to move these magazines behind any others there.  If one doesn't see them, one can't buy them.  If we all do that, perhaps US magazine will realize this trash doesn't go over well with the majority.

Those that read US are not voting McCain.

I would say those that get their news from US Magazine probably have no intention on voting for McCain anyway.   Magazines, newspapers, and anything else in print  must be incredibly happy that the Fair Time Rule does not apply to the print media.

Remember folks, speak with your wallet.  Contact every advertiser in these cheesy publications and tell them that you will no longer buy their products.  When the money stops flowing, so will the garbage.

More tabloid stories to come?

And in other news, the National Enquirer has sent three members of its "Edwards team" to Alaska to dig up what they can on Palin.

Of course NewsBusters considers the Enquirer a sterling exemplar of investigative journalism after the Edwards story, and will welcome anything it uncovers about Palin, right? Right? Oh, never mind.

What do you expect from the

What do you expect from the publisher of Rolling Stone(head)?

US on FOX

Earlier, Megyn Kelly tore into the doofuss responsible for the article. lol... what a hoot! Talk about spin-spin-spin.. dodge-parry-thrust... geez!

Megyn asked all of the right questions. The doofuss could only dodge and divert. She busted him cold.

Campbell Brown could learn something here.
